As far you use any version below Python 3 it should not interferer.

Yes, I was forced to use the 32 binaries (well, i had to install the x86 libs and my machine did the rest)

the problem is I don't get how linux works on this point.

I have successfully installed x86 libs, and I know that my version of linux supports both 64 and 32 bit packages, however python and all it's subsets will still come in 64 by default. does this mean 64 + 32 and when a script is run it runs the right version correspondignly, or that I must fiind a way to install all these packages in their 32-bit flavour?

The program itself will use the right libraries, you just have to install them (sometime by explicit commands described here)

Also you can type "python2 main.py" (or even "python2.6 main.py") instead of a single "python", you can force the correct version that way.

And The Output tells me, that you havent installed the last major update?

after posting that I took care of the unupgraded situation as I noticed it myself.

however the problem with installing 32 bit vers of python persists. it gives me the same error message.

However this error message is misguided, it's comming to the conclusion that this is caused by broken packages (not my case) where it is a question of the install of 32bit-pyhton not being possiblme when the 64bit is already installed. E.G. ouput from last post.

Well, I realized just now what you are trying... :oops:

https://bitbucket.org/fafafaf/modular-client-linux-fix/ is currently not working (because win32api is not wrapped in try blocks and you can only emulate them with wine, AFAIK)
I have tried to fix the win32api calls but just ran into other major issues. Also I was not successful in compiling from source.

May the maintainer of this branch can help us out how to get the mumble and the identification connector running correctly.

So a "linux native" FAF will not happen, nor the Mumble connector (may try install mumble in the same wine environment)
Please use PlayOnLinux (or just wine) to install both, SC:FA and FAF, this handles both: 32bit dependencies (like windows) and all API's needed (you may need vcrun2010 as mentioned above)
It's the most stable and easy way to get it running smoothly.

that sucks because mumble works on linux but not on wine. (impossible, trust me i've tried a billion times.)

It is not really complicated.
There are just some (luxury) problems that are complicated to fix, but they don't hinder you to play a game.

Once you become a Tuxer you will understand that this "cryptic black box" is your best friend and mostly easier to use than all these Setting-Boxes.

I will investigate this weekend and try to get Mumble running. May Visionik will allow me to include spare Linux support.
