how do you install supcom:FA in linux?
how do you install FAF in linux?

a short answer is all right, when it is still beginner-friendly.

I'm somewhat literate with linux, but I've had a lot of trouble with WINE.

How I did it:
1. Install ubuntu 13.04
2. Add wine to the repositories by adding ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa to software sources. (http://www.winehq.org/download/ubuntu)
3. Install wine:

4. Install steam through winetricks

winetricks --no-isolate steam

5. Start steam and install Forged Alliance.
6. Download and run FAF-installer in wine.
7. Set game-path to the path on the c:\ drive (c:\Program Files x86\Steam\SteamApps\common\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance).
8. Start a replay to test that everything is working.
9. Go for a 1v1 laddermatch.

i agree. you could put your keys into steam and get a copy of FA, but then need to install steam twice (once in linux and once in wine). i do not want to do this.

does anybody know how to install FA in wine/winetricks/vinyard/playonlinux without installing steam first?

in general, you just run
$ wine setup.exe

report back what happens
putting error messages into the googles works wonders too.

i got FA installed. i have to find out how to start it, because the installer did not place a shortcut on my desktop (it hang at the installation of gpg, so i quit it). but this should not be hard to do.

i run 64bit arch with kernel 3.9.11-1 and the latest nvidia 319.32 driver. wine is version 1.6-1. i installed winetricks as well (but have not actively used it).

this is my attempt to install the FAF lobby:

did you install anything else in wine (besides FA and the FAF lobby (the latest version?) )?
did you only install wine and winetricks?
what graphics driver are you using?

i got it working quite easily. and i dont think i have dotnet4. at least wintricks thinks i only have dotnet 2.
edit: or maybe i have, but then apparently i did install it by downloading dotnet4.exe from microsoft.
