Brainy Team Guide

Postby Master_Vallex » 28 May 2013, 19:57

Hey guys, i promissed it, its late, but here it is, the:

Brainy Team Guide

Its basicly an explanation and interview about how Brainwashed and I, we too noobs from the edge of the world, were able to defeat teams with CrazedChariot and Lu_Xun_17 and eventually even won the entire tournamen: Rise of the Immortals http://faforever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=2005
By explaining all this i hope that you guys will understand our minds and get some ideas of your own, also having a list of things you might wanna do for practise :)

What do i want to show?:
- How we practised/prepared for the games
- What our BO(Build Order)-ideas and general team-strategys were
- Why we won / lost for any game.

What do i do this for:
- Revolution Trophy, what else -.-
- I want high quality teamgames and no unprepared random games, so i herby do what i can :)

Structure:
- I will explain the games, ideas and strategys for them in the same order as they were played, so feel free to scroll to a certain round if you wanna see that first.

Let the games begin ;)

TA4life considered our pool (3) to be the group of death, meaning we 4 teams were almost equvilent in skill.
I think all pools would have been horrible for us ^^
And i only explain the 2v2 parts for now, if you want me to tell about 1v1s, i maybe do that later.

Round 1
Enemies: Two Potato Bros (Freshy and Mercy_time); Map: Roanoke

Level of fear was like 50%, we were scared actually.
For Roanoke we didn't have special stuff in mind, i knew Washy was basicly unbeatable there.
Map analysis was not so important for that one, since we knew the map well.
Mix of ACU to take the islands while spamming air and navy. Fobos for raiding. Don't forget eco.
Sera and aeon were ofc the logical combinations for early water game.
Sorry i won't be able to give many practise replays, because we played not in FAF to keep people from watching ;)
We ALWAYS had voice chat during practise/analysis.

We ended up with me going 1st bomber on Roanoke, because i was good with that. I wanted to distract Mercy_Time a bit early.
As expected Washy just roled Freshy over with navy and auroas, i just hold the line.

Round 2
Enemies: Immortals (Chosen and Lainelas); Map: The Cold Place

We knew this would be our strongest oponents.
But judging by their performance against the Youtube Stars we had hope.
Level of fear was 40%.
Inspired by other teams, we decided to go for a something more team heavy gameplay.
We decided, that the 1st bomber of Round 1 was such a good distraction that we were always going to use something we called a Build Order Breaker (BOB) for every 2v2. The idea was to destroy any potentially good BO the enemies could have had.
It ment an early attack. But because we used 1st bomber already, we were looking for something else.
We remembered uberge3k using a fast Jester build order. But we wanted to make it teambases.
So we started the map like 10 times in practise for each 3 mins to test early things.
Map analysis was easy from replays we saw there: mapcontroll means reclaimcontroll ESSPECIALLY in the lake.

So we ended up going both 1st pgen, donating it to me and i went insta airfactory assisting with acu to build jester.
Only because of a lab raid BO from lainelas he was able to counter attack. but he and even chosen were losing engys and forced to build AA.
Washy as aeon had the task to go for fast t2 air and gain airsupremacy WHILE fighting fobos with auroras in the lake. Eventually the auroras won and he had the lake.
I was preparing acu pushs and went for gun+t2 range bots+pd at the front. all 3 combined with some airsupport was enough to kill both enemies.

We had many other ideas, crazy stuff like base change in mind but we decided for something more safe, the jester.

Round 3
Enemies: Youtube Stars (TJ- and Napalm); Map: Crazy Rush

After your very hard BO3 against the Immortals we qualilied for the final tree, but if we lost against Youtube Stars we would face the TAGs in the quarer finals.
Yet we were quite calm and prepared for the games.
For this map we saw many practising games, all went the same way: spam moar!!
So we said we need a BO-Breaker again.
Map analysis was easy: be faster!
We looked at various starting BOs of other teams, always the first attacks happend around the 4th minute mark.
We said thats possible earlier.
On that small map we just decided to move ahead with a few very early artys to kill some pgens and cripple their BO. Washy provided a lab and scouts for distraction and intel.
Then we spammed alot and rushed some T4s.
We also wanted to do some kind of joke, so we went for an Ahwassa on a 5x5 map ^^

We ended up winning quite fast, so we decided to stick to the early attack distraction way.

I keep updating this thing if i get time and so on, i mark edits in what i´ve done so far and will write the other weeks in the following 1-2 days. If you want 1v1 explainations aswell, or only specific, write just below.
