OverCharge with no storage exploit

Postby ZLO_RD » 05 May 2013, 16:37

If you select an ACU and an engineer you are somehow allowed to OC
that horrible video explains that a bit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSOz6xk-Vhw
also when you OC with '4000' power in bank you will get '-1000' in bank, so it screws your eco a bit

ZeP said that he has no idea how to fix it, so it is up to you guys... Please try to fix it...

lol:)

this is an exploit so if it cant be fixed just report it with replay.

its probably because of the storage change before this you had 5000 energy at start.

also not just enginer but everything else, even wall :D

also 1x energy storage is cheap so.

this thread should get deleted before people start abusing it, luckily nobody reads forums :D (1%only)

well in that case i want to address something.
currently the acu is counted as an engineer unit. you can select it together with engineers, but not with fighting units
i think that should be changed becuause.
1. when microing, you maybe dont have the time to select your acu and your units all the time.
2. (once happened to me) you select your acu and want to send it back, but you accidently select a scout and therefore not the acu and it runs headon into an enemy base
3. while building you will mostly have the time to select the acu and engineers. and you can still just double click the engis and order it to assist the acu

250 mass = roughly more than 1/4 of a t2 mex, yea lets call that cheap, especially within the first 5 min of a game. (sarcasim if you couldn't tell)

It's hard to abuse, because you will have a negative energy in storage. (-1000 if you have full E but no storage).

So you have to reach 0 again, and during that time your mexes/factories won't produce.

I wouldn't consider it something that needs to be fixed unless it's easy to do so.

The only situation in which this exploit might be worth the risk is if the enemy commander has barely any lifepoints left, is just about to escape and enemy units are approaching your commander which forces you to retreat.
But since the range of the normal attack of a commander is quite a bit larger than the OC range and if the enemy commander is close enough for an OC and has so little lifepoints left that you can kill him with an OC, you might as well just use the normal attack to finish him off.

I don't see why anyone would want to risk ruining their economy for an early OC, especially since the energy storage only costs 136 MEU.
For comparison, a single Mantis costs 54 MEU.

I tried it with Aeon ACU + Aeon T1 engineer and it didn't work. I tried it with Seraphim ACU + Seraphim t1 engineer and it did work. That tells me this bug may be specific to Seraphim, and that it's probably fix-able because it doesn't affect all ACU/engineer combinations.
