Battle of the T3 Bots!

Postby Pathogenic » 02 May 2013, 07:21

So I spent some time doing some sandbox testing, in order to compare the efficacy of the T3 bots versus each other. The goal was to compare equivalent mass costs of bots. The testing consisted of the faster of the two bots marching in line abreast formation to the other army of bots, also positioned line abreast. I did not micro the bots. Also, I specifically avoided testing the Loyaltist EMP by making sure the Loyalists and the opposing bots got close enough to fire at each other, but not for the Loyalist death to stun them. Here is what I found:

Harbinger (12) vs Loyalist (21):
Harbinger won 7/7 matches, average of ~7 Harbs remaining

Harbinger (32) vs Brick (21):
Haringer won 7/7 matches, average of ~15 Harbs remaining

Harbinger (12) vs Titan (21):
Harbs won 7/7 matches, average of 9 Harbs remaining

Harbinger (32) vs Percival (21):
Percy won 5/5 matches, average of ~6 Percies remaining

Harbinger (20) vs Othuum (20):
Othuum won 3/4 matches, average of ~3 Othuum remaining

Loyalist (24) vs Brick (9):
Brick won 2/2, average 4 Bricks remaining

Loyalist (20) vs Titan (20):
Loyalist won 2/2 matches, average of 10 Loyalists remaining

Loyalist (24) vs Percival (9):
Percival won 3/3 matches, average of ~8 Percies remaining

Loyalist (21) vs Othuum (12):
Othuum won 2/2 matches, average of ~8 Othuum remaining

Brick (9) vs Titan (24):
Bricks won 3/3 matches, average of 4 Bricks remaining

Bricks (20) vs Percival (20):
Percival won 2/2 matches, average of 11 Percies remaining

Brick (21) vs Othuum (32):
Othuum won 3/3 matches, average of ~18 Othuum remaining

Titan (24) vs Percival (9):
Percy won 3/3 matches, average of ~6 Percies remaining

Titan (21) vs Othuum (12):
Othuum won 2/2 matches, average of 11 Othuum remaining

Percival (21) vs Othuum (32):
Othuum won 2/2 matches, average of 10 Othuum remaining

So the order of effectiveness of the T3 bots in these head on tests are Othuum>Percival>Harbinger>Brick>Loyalists>Titan

To be fair, since some have mentioned kiting Percies vs Othuum, I tested 21 Percies running away in formation from 32 Othuums following the Percies in formation, and Othuum lost badly, killing only 1 Percy. I was surprised Othum fared so well in these tests, whenever folks have been comparing T3 bots these days the Othuum seems to be considered the "forgotten" bot, omitted in many comparisons. Yet it does very well in fights with other T3 bopts based on equivalent mass costs.

Except that without micro, your test has barely no value. ie. kiting bricks will win against their mass of harbies.

That's really tough en-masse. I would be extremely surprised at Loyalists beating Percivals mass for mass in numbers above 5 or 6. Beyond that, micro becomes less exact.

Interesting and a bit surprising results.
Amazing to see the diference of results when the units get microed.
Thx for the tests.

2 Bricks took down 9 Percies whilst being targeted by 11 others! That must be a typeo :?:

I found the Loyalist (20) vs Titan (20) result intresting.

Cybran OP...

OT:

Very interesting, the results are not what you would get in a real game with micro though, so it proves how much micro really matters to be honest.

However, from these results (and my own ingame expiriences) I would have to conclude t3 is very well balanced, agianst other T3.

Not taking the units strength (range, speed, stun,..) in the test make it worthless.

It's like saying that 20 auroras die to 10 mantis if not microed.

That is very harsh. How would you test this with a realistic amount of micro? The test where he took all the Percivals, had them run away with a large group of Othuums set to chase, is equally bad in my opininon.

I would say this test does a good job of demonstrating exactly what it set out to do.

It makes an inaccurate prediction of what will happen in a real game. This does not by any means make it worthless.

If the test did not specify about the micro used, then yes it would be.
