Awesom power of Percival

Postby samoja » 22 Apr 2013, 23:44

Well i am sure you all know this but i just cant resist, i my last game i saw exactly how powerful those things are, my and my pal were surrounded in our starting valley, game was only land units, and we had no hope of breaking out until i started pumping out Percis, 5 were enough to run a blockade made of t2 point defense and shields, but that is not what rely surprised me. Once the blockade was down our opponent started throwing experimentals on us, at least 5 or 6 monkeylords, 1 fatboy and a GC, my pal also started building fatboys while i focused on spamming more percis, his first fatboy fell to to first of 2 monkeylords, but my 12 escorting percis managed to deal with booth monkeylords with minimal losses(and they all togather costed less mass than even a single monkeylord), our opponent kept throwing experimentals on us but my perci spam kept them dead in their tracks, until my pal managed to build 3 fatboys and advance on enemy base, so with his covering fire and my percis we broke all the way to enemy base, even colossus fell without making a dent in even a single fatboy, and it was my percis that score that final hit in the end. I must say i am overwhelmed by the sheer power of that beasts.

Yup... IMO, as far as late-game ground is concerned, the range and frontloadedness of the Percival make it the most efficient direct assault unit in the game. Try dropping 3 Percivals, 2 Titans, and a shield-upgraded SCU from a T3 transport into the enemy base for a good laugh :p

Yeah, they are the reason UEF doesn't have a land experimental in the same sense as the other factions do. Mass for mass, they'll kill pretty much everything around them.
Their only issue is they are useless against massed low tech units, which they overkill dramatically.
They're pretty slow as well I guess but that doesn't matter too much.

Unless they have Czar/Soul ripper.
I used to use them as mobile, flying PD when I had air supremacy; land attacks didn't matter once they started firing.
But yeah, percies are amazing, and you should use them with titans and t3 air transports for drops.
As Shadow says; a sACU with the bubble shield with them will wreak havoc; them shields have a lot of hp; I thought it was over 50k points last time I checked.

Absolvers/Harbies/T2 Shields are a quick solution to a drop like that.

Harbies are no match for Percis, and Perci can just walk under the t2 shield, in essence, to stop a few Percis that drop in your base from doing serious damage you need at least 3 time as much Harbies( i saw Percis defeat 2 times as much Harbies and still walk).

Percies are very strong. Gun upgrade and OC are honestly the best tool against them. Don't you dare try to get an ACU without range upgrade near them though. They can easily kite for days. Well, they can technically kite even a gun upgraded ACU (minus Aeon) with their range, though not quite as easily. Against maybe a handful with some support at least. But if you can take out the enemies OC, or make sure they don't have enough power income to fill their OC, they are phenomenal ACU killersssss too

Supported by T2 mobile shields, Harbies can close with Percies and overrun them. Their speed and rate of fire make them deadly if they can get in close, while the lack of speed and slow rate of fire make it difficult for Percies to take out anything faster than them. It takes a fair bit of micro, but I've pulled off 2v1s with Harbs versus Percies.
