Can someone modify Lua scripts to make aircraft carriers capable to building airplanes "in route"?
Did any modder already done it?
Balance is a question of resources, and, if we upgrade a little the speed and a lot the cost of these type of warships, they will be more playable IMHO.
What you think?

Building and moving at the same time are impossible because things under construction CANNOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, move. The carrier can move while building, but the thing it's building cannot, causing a weird situation where the plane stays stationary while the carrier moves away.

It's possible to work-around this by enabling only one or two units to be built, you then get the situation similar to ACU building missiles while walking: You don't enable construction through the build menu, but through a command button. The works, but who wants a carrier that can only make torpedo bombers?

But yeah, that's the long and short of it.

I've experimented with carriers that also do auto-attack with aircraft, a-la protoss carriers, but everybody who play tested it seemed to not like it, but that doesn't mean the idea cannot be tweaked.

From what I remember, Domino created an addition to his DMS mod where it remembered the build queue of mobile factories if you moved them. They could not build on the move, but as soon as it stops, it will build the next unit in the queue. I think if you move the mobile factory before the unit is finished it is lost, like it currently does.

what would be interesting is something that worked like the protoss carrier with your local airforce. planes in the vicinity of a carrier or carriers would automatically be allocated among and would then carry out attack orders from the carrier as well as automatically dock unless ordered other wise. What would be the value of attacking with carriers over the stage-only mechanic? aircraft associated or recently undocked from carriers could be given a buff, either speed dps or shield
FA is a game of economic micromanagement (what StarCraft players mistakenly call 'macro') and tactical trumping (e.g. T2 PD countering T1 Spam).

Moving upgrading comms were possible in <= 3599 and considered an exploit. I think it still is if you can click really fast.

About that. Funkoff: Would a workaround where an aircraft carrier builds an "upgrade" while moving, and once the upgrade is done immediately spawns a unit in the place where it is at that moment be a viable solution?

Well the UEF ACU can construct different types of missiles while doing other things by way of having different missile types as an installable upgrade.

Would a possible workaround be to have carriers, in the same way as a command unit, have each type of aircraft as a 'upgrade' that costs zero resources/time to install? The players would not be able to queue up different types of aircraft at once, but it would solve the problem of them not being able to build on the move and solve the problem of carriers not being able to construct more than one type of plane.

How plausible is this idea?

I have a very far-fetched idea that might help us implement buidling on the move, or not! My knowledge of FA code is only very limited so this might not work at all. This is for the greater code-gods to look at:

- whenever you build a carrier, an invisible factory/building is created somewhere off-map.
- when selecting a carrier's build menu, you are selecting this hidden building instead.
- aircraft are constructed in hidden building, and when completed, are spawned in the carrier.

Doable?

Had the same idea as you can do exactly that already (by abusing a bug). If you do it carriers build fluently and visibly while moving around. However, it would be either very hard for the player to control it (very inconvenient) or hard to program an UI around it... probably.
