Should Walls Count Against Unit Cap?

Postby Vicarian » 14 Apr 2013, 01:32

Just want to get the consensus of the community here. Currently the Unit Cap hit for a wall section is 0.1, which means if you build a single wall section, you can't build a unit when you reach the unit cap. I don't think walls are interesting enough to cost unit cap. I may submit BPs for the 4 wall sections with a 0 cap hit if a consensus is reached that it's a worthwhile change.

But then people will recklessly spam walls if they know there is no contribution of them to unit cap, causing the game speed to slow to a crawl from too many walls!

Walls are static. They don't leave contrails like ASF, and don't really have any other cool particle based effects, projectiles, or movements. They just sit there doing.... nothing. If walls being spammed overloads a machine, you need a new machine.

I rarely even reach the unit cap in a game, so I don't see this as a problem, plus if you gotten to 1000 units then your also probably at t4, which in that case walls don't count for much then, so just ctrl-k those suckers if you need that one extra engineer to be built.

Clearly I needed to add a "j/k" tag to my comment, lest people begin to take me seriously!
