Lobby CPU Quality Indicator

Postby Duck_42 » 07 Apr 2013, 02:01

The "CPU Quality" indicator is now live in the lobby. It's displayed UNDER the ping number in the lobby. It works in a similar fashion to the ping score (lower is better). You can hover your mouse over a bar to get the exact score.

For those of you who want details, the benchmark runs a bunch of loops with some basic math and the records the number of times the CPU was able to complete the loop in five seconds. The benchmark starts 10 seconds after you join the lobby and runs for five seconds. The status is displayed on the CPU Test button (new button next to the observer button).

IF YOU ALT TAB OR MINIMIZE THE GAME BEFORE THE BENCHMARK FINISHES, YOUR SCORE WILL BE LOWER!
If you forget not to do that and end up with a bad rating, just hit the "Run CPU Test" button to re-run the benchmark and update your score.

Duck,

Does the test influence one CPU core, or all CPU cores when running?

The reason for my question is that if the test is being run on a previously idle core with realtime thread priority it would score highly, but would be an overstatement of game performance. If it were running on core 0 which is normally occupied, the benchmark would also score inaccurately.

Also is the test a 32-bit or 64-bit instruction?
Play the Beta.

It's using FA, so it's the same conditions than FA in game.

I've got a fair concern in PM :

Hi Ze,

Thanks for all that you have done with fa!

I have a bit of a concern:

The new comp bar that has been introduced has labelled my comp as in the red. Now I am getting kicked when I try to play. I run my game on low specs and tested the game with 2000 t3 jets fighting one another and my comp was at -4 seconds. The guy who was running the test with me had a top notch computer and was at -1 to -2 seconds.

I am not disputing that my comp is old, however it does not affect my game play in 2v2 matches. I suggest that the green/yellow/red rating should be related to the game size/# of players. This would be a more fair representation of people who have similar computers to me and would allow us to enjoy the game rather than be insulted and kicked.

Thanks!

Would be indeed nice is that bar was scaled depending of the number of players and unit limit. (or at least always green up to 2v2 or even 3v3)

could the mouse-over area be a little larger? maybe have 2 numbers ###:### (ping:cpu rating) and then 2 equally sized bars above and below?

i'm not sure how hard to edit that ui stuff might be

otherwise rly good works thnx!
FA is a game of economic micromanagement (what StarCraft players mistakenly call 'macro') and tactical trumping (e.g. T2 PD countering T1 Spam).

Seems its a bad idea in common and
this willnt bring smth good because
some schoolpupils and just noobs
who playing very bad will be kick
players who playing better then them
or who just dont likes to them
reasoning that this "test" says ur
lagger. They will be up self-appraisal
by it. And where proofs that this "test"
always gets the correct meanings? I
think if faf now allowed this
"feautures" it needs to make a rating-
restrictions where game hostings and
make a possibility to ban some
faggots from hosts. It will be
simpliciter binding with this cpu test.
This idiots who will be kick players
reasoning to this no-competents just
will not even try to join games. Whats
about rating restrictions i want this
function a lot time ago. If a west
"democracy" now allow this things
lets make features which i suggest.
P.S. Im saying as russian with my
position its just only my point of view.
And sorry if english grammar is bad.
