Right now the Ladder sits at a very arbitrary feeling 3 months. I would propose halfing this to 1.5 months. The ladder seems to me to have one purpose, its a competitive meta game designed to reward players for participating in 1v1 automatch system. Its something aside from ranking and a fight to the top. The current format however does not seem as effective as it could be.
The advantages of a shorter ladder would be as follows:
-New players would not have to wait so long before having any chance of reaching the top of their league (if you join 2 months in now you need to gain 200 points which is pretty much impossible for the average player).
-Improving players would not have to wait so long to be promoted up the ladder (I realise the system allows you to be promoted if you get 50% above the other players but this does not allow for two closely competing players and becomes hugely difficult once several players have racked up large scores).
-The divisions would be more competitive as they would not fill up with 'ghost' players who are inactive. Many lower leagues have a single active player producing a total lack of competition.
-It would encourage players to remain active in the ladder as they would not be able to maintain avatars (its clear people like them as they use them) for so long without playing.
Disadvantages:
(rienzilla) The ladder being reset once you reach the top is not rewarding
-Counter: You get an avatar and are likely to be promoted to the next league.
