Seton's Help (Rock)

Postby Vicarian » 30 Mar 2013, 18:35

Hey all, I just completed a Seton's game where I was on rock. I chose Cybran. I was wondering if anyone had any input in how I could improve my play from this position. A few things I messed up on - I lost track of a spider I'd built, and didn't really expect their back player to be churning out chickens. I my spider got pinched. I was a little late taking my island, though I really had no competition from my opponent - he didn't even build a single naval yard. I had lots of trouble with mass throughout the game. I chomped on all my trees, though. Any criticism is welcome. I prefer playing air, so I'm not quite good at navy.

ok here we go:

First thing i would like to recomend u is to go and copy a build order from a very good rock player at least for the first 5- 10 mins. there are lots of things to mention:

initial build should be factory 2x power 2x mexes dont build factory followed by 4 mexes this leads into powerstall

1:20 powerstall due to initial build

2:20 from your first 6 engeneers 5 are reclaiming and only one is building mexes due to powerstall they should spread on the map to build all your mexes asap

3:00 u upgrade 3 mexes at a time and are -200 power thats bad - but u notice and pause the upgrades thats good.

3:30 still not heading for all your mexes with engeneers do that faster

5:00 u are going to surround your first t2 mex with storage.. that is mutch to early u should tech like this: build all available mexes asap- tech all t1 to t2 - surround all t2 mexes with storage - go t3 this is the most efficient way to tech up

6:25 u have 4 factorys up for engyspamm thats good take care that those engeneers reclaim.

7:00 still no airfactory up u need to have t1 air at 5 min mark latest and as rock player even sooner in order to get your island. u need to protect mid and yourself from airthreads and u need to scout your enemy.

10:00 scoutrun attempt from u - that is good but next time try to spread those scouts all over the map and dont send a stream of scouts just into mid where they all get killed by enemy air
your navy production setup is good, u do it right build a few t1 navy yards supported by some engeneers is mutch better than spamming lots of navy yards building unsupported.

11:30 u finally scout your enemy base and notice that he has no navy and u insta move your t1 navy over to denie him the water - good move. u should go insta t2 navy now!

13:00 first t3 mex up while u still have 8 t1 mexes i your base while your island mexes are still not build although u have engeneers and a factory there since a few minutes.

14:30 your first tech t2 factory is a land factory? why? for engeneers? better upgrade your navy fac as u need 2t navy anyway or your commander ( cheaper than t2 landfac) or even an airfactory so u could build some better bombers but t2 land is totally useless in that situation

15:00 u build a 3rd navy factory in order to go t2, while t2 navy is a good idea there is no need to build a extra factory u could upgrade one of the 2 existing factorys and u could even reclaim the other one as there is no more use for t1 navy

16:00 u finalyy build those mexes on the island

17:00 reclaiming your t1 power after your t2 power production is up - very good !

19:00 moving all your buildpower from the navy yards to your t2 navy, thats the right thing to du but u should have done it mutch earlier.
nice cruiser spamm now

23:00 your enemy starts building a mavor at the coast while beeing sieges by navy why he still has mainly t1 / t2 mexes LOL

24:00 your killing the beach base and head for the front now in order to kill it too- thats the right thing to do.

your task now is to keep beach and front base denied to the enemy team, while helping your team on their jobs- go t3 air and help the sea side with torps for example.
ill stop the review now.

Fazit: watching your game play i have to notice there are some thing u do very good while other parts are pretty poor.- there are little medicore things u do- u seem to like the extreme ;)
Good things: early engeneer spamm, navy production setup - constant scouting - reclaiming t1 power when t2 is up
bad things: your initial buildorder is horrible so is the tech path (t1-t2-surround-t3 !!!)- going t2 land for the t2 engeneer.- t1 air too late
If u just copy a good builder and follow the tech path u should greatly improve in short time so that would be my first advise try that and i will gladly review your next game for some fine tuning.

i hope i could help u little

Thanks very much, LaPPen, eco never has been one of my strong points, so I'll definitely change how I handle my mexes, and try to not stall so early on.
