UEF Destroyers' strategic icon

VoRCom:
Alright, i Know its been like this for a whille. but WHOS idea was it to change the UEF destroyers' strategic icon? What kind of half baked idea was that? Now it has the marker of a Battleship(artyshelling icon). Did anyone not reallize that these symbols are pretty universal, and are not just arbitrary?

It was my idea. The UEF destroyer has laughable anti-sub capability, so the anti-sub icon doesn't make sense. It's more like a tech 2 battleship (good vs ships, bad vs subs/air) than anything else, so it has the icon to match.

... That is an anti-sub icon?

Wiki.... "In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast and maneuverable yet long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against smaller, powerful, short-range attackers."
"large, swift, and powerfully armed torpedo boats designed to destroy other torpedo boats"

So, it may be lousy at a specific part of its job, but I dont feel that merits giving it a battleship icon. Battleship icon follows artillary based weapon, and sure thats what the destroyer has(not its only weapon), but its main purpose is not shelling land positions like long range artillary suggests, it is a navel support unit.

Wikipedia definitions aside, it's not a "battleship" icon, it's a "surface direct-fire" icon. It's got the same cross-hairs symbol as tanks, just with the shape of a ship. The battleship is primarily a direct fire unit (particularly the Aeon battleship) that just happens to have long enough range to also be useful in siege.

since Coopers are the real anti sub weapon of the UEF, it is good that they are the only with with a anti-sub icon

I wanted the change so that the icons for destroyers and coopers looked different. The Cooper was anti-sub, so it got to keep the anti-sub icon and, therefore, the destroyer icon had to change... and I changed it to the only icon that made any sense.

I kinda agree with VoR here.

The UEF T2 Surface vessels are now completely inconsistent with the rest of the factions. All the other destroyers have"anti-sub" icons, as well as the cooper, yet the destroyer is the only "direct fire" t2 surface vessel? It just doesn't make sense. I do agree that there needed to be a change to differentiate the two, but I think the cooper should have ave the single vertical line like the subs do, or a downward curve like the naval factories.

I can tell you neither pay attention nor do research: The cooper's icon is identical to the T2 subs' icons, with the exception that the hemisphere is inverted, because it's a surface vessel rather than a sub-surface one. Also, your first statement is true, but irrelevant because the UEF destroyer is unlike other destroyers, thus the unlike icon follows logic.
