This is good, someone whose looking to actually use the ip can buy that, hopefully wargaming.
I also though that square enix owned the license but apparently not?

An intresting point: This appears to be the licences to only Supreme Commander (1) and SC:Forged Alliance themselves.

Can someone help clarify who knows more than I?

Please someone launch a KickStarter project to buy this one ^^

Well if i read this correctly, it is in the "licensed software" lot, does this means, it is only distribution rights ? Not actual IP or source ?

They are selling the publishing rights, not the IP.

Meaning that if nobody buy it, FA will disappear from Steam. But you can't do much with the publishing rights, except publishing it :)

I don't know if there's a minimum bid, but you could always try to offer $10. I read in a game magazine that one of the games only had one bidder, and at this auction they published the highest and the second highest bid, so the game magazine could've become famous by just bidden a dollar.

I have absolutely no idea what worth a publishing right, and what come with it.
Do you have to renegotiate with steam ? Do you still have to give money to GPG ?

What were the highest and lower bids on the previous lots ?

To answer the OP question, it can be very good news :
The new owner decide that FAF is the online platform or choice for his new aquired game, and give us money. (chances that it happens : near 0%).

Or very bad news : The new decide that he doesn't like FAF and close it. (chances that it happens : probably around 10%).

Chances that everything stay the same (except a new logo on the steam page) : 60%.
Chances that FA disappears from the surface of the earth (legally) : 30%.

Well, again, if i read this correctly, it is a lot. So you take everything or nothing, right ?

I suppose the new publisher will just continue with any existing publishing contract, maybe lower prices or create game collections to try to make some money but that's all. They are already publishers out there.

So if the buyer take this as a "lot", chances are he won't pay any attention to a lot of the games included. I looked at the list, and Supcom and FA seems to be the biggest productions in it, no ?

---

Anyway, who cares about publishing rights ? If no one wants it, or if fans buy it, the game could become free, that's it ? Everyone can already try it before buying, or just cr*ck it, so it won't change much for FAF players i think. If FAF get it, there might be some press talking and more players would discover FAF. That would be cool for the publicity it would make for FAF. I think it is just a matter of time before it happens one way or another. With time and quality, community-driven projects ends up being talked of in game related media or press.

The interesting thing however, would be to get hands on actual source code, development tools and the rights to modify everything. I highly doubt this comes in a nice usable package, but i may be wrong. With GPG maybe going down, what's the story concerning that ?

I wouldn't be suprised if they sell the complete package instead of single games.

Trying to buy it for a low price could be worth a try, even if its very unlikley to succeed.

GPG bot bought by Wargames, so i suppose they own the source code now.
