Word of mouth, is exponential growth

Postby SeraphimLeftNut » 10 Feb 2013, 23:25

For Supcom FA the only way to get new players is through current players telling their friends about the game. The internet(google) only promotes things that are paid for, so if you are still living with the illusion that whatever is popular is what the masses have chosen to be popular, you need to wake up.

Word of mouth has exponential character, the more people you have playing, the more people you have talking, the more people you have hearing and the more people you have coming in.

This should be very intuitive to the average supcom FA player, who understands the value of early mass and must understand that if you let your first engineer sit idly by with no orders you are likely to be in a huge hole against the enemy.

You the players are these early engineers, dont' sit idly by, promote the game and later when we have conquered the RTS world, we won't send you to the front lines to reclaim wrecks, but leave you under the shields assisting the nukes.

The Youtube commentaries brought me back into the fold. I hadn't thought about the game since 2007.

Same here. I searched for FA matches and then found Gyle. After a few matches, he finally described this 'FAF' thing he'd been talking about. Of course, i immediately downloaded it. After, i told my other FA playing friend and even convinced 2 other friends to get FA. So in essence, I can attest to the success of the Youtube casting. Not only is it entertaining, but also an invaluable tool for promoting FAF.

We owe you a lot ta. You are personally responsible for at least 1/3 of FAF's daily users and I hope that other people work to spread the game as well.

I'm in the process of making a Supreme Commander Let's Play at Something Awful. While the thread is being followed mostly by people already familiar to the game there are a few strategy aficionados amazed by the sheer scale of the game (and I'm still on the very first missions).

I just feel bad that any purchases done right now would go directly to Square Enix... who hasn't been the best foster parent to our game.

The 13th, there was 2.024 unique players (that at least play one real game) on FAF.

That's astonishing and brilliant. Who would have thought that this far down the road the player figures would be wiping the floor with GPGNet in its heyday?

Thank you Pilot!
