Raging during a game

Postby Flynn » 22 Jan 2013, 18:27

Okay I must admit I thought I was cured of "Nerd Rage" after coming back to SupCom, but, it seems, the more you play a game the more involved you become during a match and there have been sometimes when I have felt the urge to type some abuse in the chat when I lose or when my opponent makes it hard for me to finish.

Take yesterday for instance, I was playing on Fin's Revenge, I had won the land spam war and then my opponent stood in his base and built T1 PDs all around him and managed to get quite an effective turtle going on, later upgrading his com with the T2 engineering suite to turtle with T2 PDs + shields (and then later with Ravangers + heavy shields).

Now I think back to it I should have just switched to arty spam during his little T1 PD building stage but I didn't think of it at the time as I normally just tend to build Auroas on Fin's so that the artillery doesn't get left behind when I take advantage of the Auroas hover ability.

Anyway, during this point I could feel the game slipping away from me and I was getting quite frustrated with him not just giving up like any sane human being. Eventually I put an end to his antics by dropping a Czar on his head but I really wanted to finish earlier considering I just wanted a quick game before I had to go out.

And it's not just frustration at the conclusion of a game, during playing my adrenaline levels go up and I get such a rush from it as well. How's everyone else's experience, do you play quite relaxed or are you really high on adrenaline? I ask this because I saw a game from ZLO_RO's perspective when he was playing and he seemed really relaxed compared to how I am when I play!

To be honest, it's the main reason i don't play that game too much. I get too stressed and afterwards, I can't help but think about the games I played all the time, when I am in bed, sometimes I can't find sleep. That"s why I watch more replays than I play : it's better for my nervous system.

Me too!

I find that the beginning of the game, you know right when the 'Launch' button is pressed, is when i get the most excited. My mind starts to scheme and wonder how i might defeat my opponent, and more so how they may try to defeat me. I get so excited during those first few minutes that at times I'm about to jump out of my seat.

Then, the game gets moving and I become more relaxed and in control, until I have to micro both air AND land. Then my blood starts to boil (In a good way). This is usually why I play the game in the first place, for the rush!

But, like you Pip I find that at night I have a hard time falling to sleep and end up back on the computer for another 30 min trying to solve failed games earlier in the day.

Me too. It's really annoying, sometimes I'm just too nervous to jump into a game even tough there are good games available.

The only good thing: after 200 games I'm much more relaxed than at the beginning. So there is a light at the end of the tunnel ;-)

I have exactly the same problem, it's realy bad if you lose the last game of the day. You go in your bed and you can't stop thinking about the game. I also feel like that i have to flame and rage after a lose, but normaly i'm speaking to my self, hey it's just a game stay over it.

So yes it's realy difficult to relax in the game and after a game.

So what can you do? I'm listening to some music or talking with friends via skype or watching a little movie (scrubs, big bang) before i go sleeping.

Hey guys I think it's completely normal to be angry for a loss.... It happens to me very often. I may quit without gg'ing ... and that's not polite... but the most important thing is to not insult your opponent for any reason. I always repeat to myself that any strategy is lecit unless it's a bug/cheat...

I have met people calling me dickhead just because I won. That's bad.
