Experience with the new Factory - Mex/Fab adjacency?

Postby Crayfish » 22 Jan 2013, 12:45

Been out of the loop for a little while, and was super excited to hear about the new adjacencies for factories with mass producing structures (something I've wanted to see for years). I just wondered if there was any in-depth posts about the real world and or mathematical data / experiences now its in place. Things like economic data from common production scenarios at different stages of the game including the trade off between factory adjacency and mass storage. Risk - reward tradeoff, best layouts - templates etc etc.

Btw does anyone remember back in Vanilla when people were linking their facs with power and mexes for opening builds? Was there an adjacency buff like this one back then that got removed, or were people just mistaken?

P.S. crazy volatile late game, four T3 Fab + Fac combo for 80% mass cost reduction sounds pretty insane! 80%!!
Bricks and Percies for 250 mass, awesome!

I think there are maps like Open Palms where u will often have 2 T3 Mexes linked to a fac late game, that 50% bonus is gona be pretty big for high tech spam. As you say, interested to hear about the more subtle effects earlier in the game also.

It's realy hard for me. I was build factorys around hydros and pgens for 4 years and now i have to switch to mexxies. I need more games first to change my bos. But yes it's a nice thing.

Yeah for sure. I always thought that the adjacney system was one of the most interesting features of Supcom, I know this game isn't susposed to be sim city, but it was disappointing just how few adjacencies actually turned out to be worthwhile, risk-reward wise, in high level play.
I used to love reading those huge indepth posts on GPG forums by mathematical types who would test out the possibilites of the system and then debates would run as people put them into practice. Does anyone remember the name of the guy on the forums who GPG consulted when they buffed the energy storage adjacency and a bunch of other buffs (maybe the mass storage buff also)? He made some really amazing threads with crazy research that were fun to read.

Im guessing now that high level players are going to be creating allot more map specific opening build templates to account for all the different mass spot locations*

I thought there was always a mex bonus? It just wasn't good enough to be worth it. Can anyone enlighten me as to what the bonus is?

t1 mex = 7.5% discount to factories and Quantum Gateways
t2 mex = 15% discount to factories and Quantum Gateways
t3 mex = 25% discount to factories ; 20% for Quantum Gateways
t2 masss fab = 2% to factories and Quantum Gateways
t3 mass fabs = 20% to factories ; 15 % for Quantum Gateways

for my part i didnt use it in lategame mutch. but in early to mid game i like to
have 4 factorys around one mex wich i reclaim later to build storage there.
for the t3 factory surrounded by fabs u have to consider that u will have engenners supporting
this factory and they get no discount. and with no additional buildpower those t3 units take mutch too
long to build them.

In general I don't think it will be used that much, as the bonus does not transfer to assisting engineers. By that point you're usually constrained more on build power than you are on resources.

Afaik you get like 0,5 mass per tick if you put a t2 fac on a t2 fac and like 2 mass per tick if t3 on t3 additionally (=reduced mass due to less storage), but you can't use that mass flexible.
