mystery Servers

Does anyone know who owns the mystery servers that pop up when you select multiplayer from the menu in game? Today I've seen up to 6 servers with games available to join. Is it a secret SupCom underground movement?

The steam community is still around they have about 50 total people who refuse to come to FAF.

Do they say why? Is it the client they don't like? Also, 50 is a very small number, sad for a community really

I randomly joined a game there once. When they were waiting in the lobby for more players, I asked if they knew about FAF, which had a much larger pool of players.

The response I got was "faf is too noob for us".

In game, they proceeded to play a NR 20 game on setons, as if they were following the build templates from the easy AI. It wasn't really a fair fight...

I'm assuming there's only one or two circles of players there and word got around, as the next few times I tried to join a game I was immediately kicked.

Yeah it's really sad. I don't know why they deride FAF. It's the only thing keeping the community going. A handful of people putting up servers every now and then is not going to keep SupCom going like FAF can and does. I kind of feel sorry for them though; just a small group of people scattered across the world in their own little corner of cyberspace  It's a wonder they ever get games going at all.

I think Steam players are just casual FA players, playing with their Steam friends who also happen to have bought FA. Most of them probably never even heard of GPGnet (otherwise, they would immediately see the interesting things about FAF). Their community is around Steam and lots of games, not just FA. They play for fun, not for competition. They are probably not aware of the bugs, nor care about 3603 imbalances. They probably haven't found out how transports are broken or this kind of stuff, and if they do, they'll make a generally accepted rule : no ACU transport at t1. Because there is no ladder / ranked games, it just doesn't matter : they will kick people that ACU rushed their face with a t1 transport, or the guys like Uber "who don't play like they like".

All in all, these guys may only be interested in FAF because of the extra mods, like Black Ops. If you want to advertise FAF over there, that's probably the best way : "more factions, more units (especially experimentals) : that's awesome, let's try it out!" Then, they will think they miss something, unlike if you say they are noob, they don't play rank, blabla : they won't give a f***, on the contrary.
