I think Steam players are just casual FA players, playing with their Steam friends who also happen to have bought FA. Most of them probably never even heard of GPGnet (otherwise, they would immediately see the interesting things about FAF). Their community is around Steam and lots of games, not just FA. They play for fun, not for competition. They are probably not aware of the bugs, nor care about 3603 imbalances. They probably haven't found out how transports are broken or this kind of stuff, and if they do, they'll make a generally accepted rule : no ACU transport at t1. Because there is no ladder / ranked games, it just doesn't matter : they will kick people that ACU rushed their face with a t1 transport, or the guys like Uber "who don't play like they like".
All in all, these guys may only be interested in FAF because of the extra mods, like Black Ops. If you want to advertise FAF over there, that's probably the best way : "more factions, more units (especially experimentals) : that's awesome, let's try it out!" Then, they will think they miss something, unlike if you say they are noob, they don't play rank, blabla : they won't give a f***, on the contrary.
