What setup do I need to not lag on seton's?

Postby KillerOfMen » 05 Dec 2012, 09:40

Hey guys,

I'm playing on a gaming laptop with this processor: http://ark.intel.com/products/43122/Int ... e-1_60-GHz

This graphics card: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobili ... 073.0.html

And 8 GB of RAM on 64bit windows 7.

The only time I EVER lag is around 25+ min on seton's. I typically slow the game down to -3 normally or -7 during massive asf battles. I would like to be able to play a game of seton's on +0, or at the very least not be the slowest one :) What should I invest in? Those of you who can play seton's at +0, what kind of setup do you have?

Thanks!

Seriously though, on a notebook, you'd best forget it.

Hahaha :)

I don't mind upgrading a desktop. I just want to know what sort of specs I need before I spend the money.

buy a notebook with Core i5-32xx or Core i7-36xx. any ivy i5 or i7 should be enough for a decent speed. its important that the notebook has a good cooler, otherwise it overheats and the turbo core cant run @ >3ghz. so better read tests about the notebook you want to buy and think about another one when you read anything from throttling.

desktop wise any new i3, i5, i7 should be fast enough. dont even think about AMD FX CPU´s their clockspeed is kinda slow even with 4ghz

Sorry but my phenom II 965 is fast enough to play setons... late game around 0 to +1...
ranking :
~1500 global / ~1100 ladder
~1100 games / ~ 400 games

1. phenom is not a AMD FX cpu and
2. Phenom 965 is kinda slow. my i5 750 is 2 sim speeds faster and a new i5 is 2 sim speeds faster than mine. phenoms are always the slowest cpus in a high class game. when most players are at -1 - +2 phenoms are at -3. to call two of these players hokuto and root

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition 6x3.30GHz

it is good enough most of the time, but i would not buy that kind of cpu if i were to build a
pc to play setons nowadays. 6 cores are also overkill for supcom, which i did not know a year
ago. what you are looking for is a quad core cpu with good single thread performance.

i have a notebook with the same processor and a weaker graphics card (acer aspire 8940g with nvidia gts 250m).

a friend of mine has an i5-3570k (not overclocked !!!) in his system. all games we have played, my simspeed was about -2 compared to his simspeed. i have never been the one with the slowest simspeed in online games. but in survival games with a ridiciouls amount of units the simspeed can go down to -5 as well. so keep that in mind!
so the processor is not as bad as everybody tells you in this thread. but is is definitely worse than desktop versions and (maybe) mobile i5/i7 cpus with more ghz (2.8 ghz max is not that much).

the bottleneck in my system is the graphics card. in bigger fights i get about 2 fps without core maximizer. with core maximizer about 10 fps. i play on low graphic settings (except fidelity is set to medium). i think your graphics card should be fine to run FAF in low/medium graphic settings.

i hope i could help you. my personal opinion is that if you get this system for a really low price it is fine. if you get it for about 400 euro/500 $ i would invest a litte more and buy a desktop pc with i5 and an older graphics card. mobile versions of graphics cards have (in most cases) about 50% of the power of the desktop version (e.g. gts 250m and gts250). keep that in mind.

summary: a desktop pc is always better for gaming.
