Can we have a featured mod for the modding ?

Postby dstojkov » 04 Dec 2012, 00:39

Hi guys,

Can we have a featured mod for the modding ? A leer shell upon which a game could start from the lobby ?

Each new mod has to be provided from it's creator for download. We could make a special topic with links to all active mods simulating an active directory

The leer shell should be based on the 3599 version mean an init_3599.lua loading all the former *.sca from the FA gamedata.

A well know basis that do not change over the time upon which something can be built and test live with the community !

Yes of course we have mods.

The problem is that mods are bounded with the faforever.faf that is launched with the init_faf.lua.

This is not possible to begin a mod without to know perfectly what there is in and this is not portable because very dependent of the change that could be made.

I tried a hook of the lua code with this one of original gamedata.scd/lua and nothing worked this is impossible to get ride of that.

Have you may be a solution for this problem ? how can I cancel to loading of faforever.faf in a mod without being a featured mod ?

That was the same with GPGNET patching. I don't have any solution for you sorry.

A mod has to be maintain to be viable, and all the FAF patches are documented in the wiki AND in the code repository. It's easy to know what change between versions.

I am not against the evolution of the FAF patch, this is not the point. The point is to be depend of a package that will 100% change this is a poor design in the world of programing

Are you not willing to have a mod vault one day ?

That won't change the fact that you will have to upgrade your mod.

It's inherited from the GPG system, it's not my design. The Featured Mod ("my" design) system can be independent, but I won't allow his usage for every existing mod.
