Thoughts on a possible betting system?

Was reading Aeolus chat and saw Ze_Pilot mention that a betting system was at one point planned for FAF. I have no idea if it is still a

possiblity and if Pilot thinks it will be worth the effort to make it etc. The idea is pretty intriguing however, here are some thoughts I had about it, would like to see what other people are thinking about would and would not work.

Overall I think it would bring more people to and keep more people in FAF as well as force noobs with gambling problems to watch top players play.

1. Every player gets a certain allotment of "money" every week added to their account.
Seems that with people going all in, it would be nice to get some fresh cash each friday night.
2. This "money" can be used to bet on 1v1 ranked games between the top (~50) players.
Only ranked games between top players means they are not likely to just give up games.
3. Can only bet against house(FAF) where the odds are based on the matchmaker prediction.
Betting against other players can create problems with people "transferring" money to eachother's accounts by making ridiculous bets.(maybe its not a problem)
4. All bets should be made within the first minute of a game, but after the game began, perhaps a link in main chat would appear notifying everyone that there is a ranked game between top 50 players and all bets should be made immediately, with player identities/factions/map name shown in the link.
Seems this should be made as strict as possible to avoid nonsense and a link to the chat would let everyone know that the betting system exists.

Any ideas?

This would be pretty awesome, not any real money for grabs but each player would have an account saying how much "money" they have won betting on other people and how much "money" they have won for other people.

One word - Smurfs. These will kill all forms of betting very easily.

That is why a rule such as only ranked games between the top 50 players should be allowed to be bet up on, should be in place. Sure smurfs will have an impact even with the rule, but I think the impact would be minimal. If people want to make a bunch of smurfs to bet multiple times against FAF, it isn't that big a deal. If there is betting between players, then there are obvious issues.

What specific smurfing problems did you have in mind?

Would like to bump this topic, hoping someone who is able could try to get this to work.

Summary:
Ability to bet on ranked games between top 100 players.
Betting against the system makes most sense. With odd built in based on player rating.
Ideally it would be nice to be able to see a betting ladder.

The benefits of such a system have been listed above.

The actual detail about how it is done can be worked if someone thinks they could make something like this.

So you're looking for a bot that:
Recognises that a game has started
Commands to bet on a particular player in that game based on certain odds to do with their rankings
Updates your "total" to reflect your betting ranking depending on whether you win or lose

It would have to be that you can only bet in the first... 3-5 minutes of a game at most, otherwise you could just bet whenever you knew one player was in a winning position.
