Unexplored Map Mode

Supcom Vanilla had an option to play games with the map unexplored. So you would start out seeing only the direct surroundings of your ACU and go from there, scouting to reveal more of the map.

Now the question:

Is it in any way, shape or form possible to re-enable or reimplement this feature for FAF lobbies? I would LOVE to have this game mode and other top players like Petric also expressed their interest.

Basically, my wet dream is playing random maps on the random map gen with unexplored setting and no map preview in the lobby. Forcing completely new builds every time, scouting and adapting at game time. If someone makes such or a similar thing possible I'd personally design and host a tourney with that mode.

This does sound super fun, and I know FtX said on discord that he liked this concept as well! I think we do have some procedural map generator tool right now, but apparently it's terrible for 1 vs 1 maps. But if someone ever made a tool like this, I think it'd be great to have it implemented in tourneys, or even in ladder.

There are 2 keys for fog of war in the actual game, "explored" and "none"

The german translation file also has a 3rd key "unexplored".

lobui_0116="Unerforscht"
lobui_0117="Gelände wird sichtbar während Sie spielen. Einheiten müssen Daten sammeln."

(unexplored)
(Terrain becomes visible as you play. Units need to collect data.)

But using the option "unexplored" does not change anything.
I guess this function is removed from the .exe file

The other problem with this, aside from actual implementation, is it would have to be a map neither person has played before. The reason this works in something like Civ is because the map is random, but random maps in RTSes tend to suck.

Why the hostility?


I can provide an analysis:

A thread is being opened with a new, interesting and challenging idea about a new game mode and a tournament around said game mode.
The game mode is the idea of playing unexplored maps with fog of war, which puts emphasis on scouting before acting and would most likely result in either chaos or think before play or scout before play styles and would overall favor smart or adaptive individuals (like myself)

you then enter the thread and make the following statement:

I dont think that the game mode is a good idea, because I (a person without any merit to their name to make a value statement) play (insert a completely irrelevant RTS) and in this RTS your game mode (decribed in a way that makes clear you didnt understand what this thread is about) tends to suck (without any analysis as to why you believe it is a bad idea)

I dont know its just so completely hilarious and triggering beyond repair that I had to laugh very loud and had to make my ironic post.

You can kill me for it. but since you asked why the hostility, I provided you an honest and from my view complete answer.

Honestly this been a feature I kinda missed from TA. Also it makes reclaim process more interesting.
