Do you ever wish eco balance was less sensitive?

Postby Flynn » 01 May 2020, 11:36

I've often wondered if there was a way to make the eco balance in FA less sensitive so that you can focus on strategic troop movements rather than having to micro manage your eco all the time. Does anyone have any ideas as to how this might have been possible? Obviously I'm not asking for anything like this to be implemented, but just wondering what the way to be would be. It also strikes me that mass and energy storage do this for the late game, to an extent, but what I am getting at is a more fundamental change to the whole system and theories as to how that would be implemented.

Well you could make a mod that is automatically upgrading your massextractors.
You can also make a mod with engineers automatically searching and caping mass spots.
And you could make a mod where engineers will build energy when you need it.
Or you can just disable eco at all.
Maybe with a system that will increase eco for all players at the same amount over time.
Or your eco decrease with the amount of units you have. no units = high eco, many units = low eco.

So yes, three are ways to make eco more or less sensitive for the player.

Just as example;
This mod will give you a unit that will automatically move over the map and reclaim all wrecks (and trees if energy is needed):
Search for the mod "Ninja Reclaim Drone"

And if you want tactical missile launcher that can fire automatically then you could try the mod "Smart Tactical Missiles"

I think you are missing the point, somewhat. I am not talking about automation, I am just talking about making the eco less sensitive. Like in the late game when you have loads of mass and e storage, but by fundamentally changing the way eco works in SupCom. So that things wouldn't crash so fast when you are spending time microing your army, because that's where the real fun is, rather than playing sim city.

I think you have to specify what "sensitive" means to you. I guess you mean stalling or overflowing, but I am not sure.
Against overflowing more storage in the beginning would help.
But it will always be superior to have an empty mass storage instead of floating a lot of mass to avoid quick stalls.

In supcom 2 there is no such thing as economy crashing since there is no flux resources, so you just will not build something if you do not have the resources. The army movement is also much smoother in that game, too, so you should have much more flexibility in unit movement strategies there.

You have to remember that giving leeway works both ways, and if you're freeing up someone who has more apm/better economy management than you, the same outcomes will occur, just a little longer into the game.

Also it would fully break all the eco based maps out there.
