FPS drops, without using full capacity of hardware..

Postby StormLantern » 24 Feb 2020, 20:38

FPS drops to around 10 fps on maps with alot of units when I select them. However, when I check task manager I see that none of my hardware are being stressed. GPU around 20% used, CPU 60% and RAM65 %..

What could be the problem?

Rendering runs in a single thread, which means on a single core. Other major thread is sim for all simulation, so 4 core CPU won't even get maxed out. Only 2 cores might. Merging selection rings is a huge FPS killer and as it happens in the engine, not much can be done with it. So if you disable some rings like intel or w/e, FPS might drop much less.

Thanks for your reply. I tried reducing the rings, because I read that on some other forum thread, but it didnt do anythings as far a I can tell. Basically what you are saying is that there is nothing really I can do about it it. Im just fucked because my cpu has 4 cores?

That is not at all what he is saying. The issue is most likely not your hardware,if its definetly fps and not sim speed drop.

i had this problem when i used Athlon II x4 @ 3ghz and GTX 760. windows 7.
Applying "high" priority on the FA process helped a lot. here is how it looked like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDlzn9S ... u.be&t=100
it goes from 8 FPS to 40+ instantly as i apply priority.

alternatively you can use this method to force render and simulation threads to use different cores:

Yeah i used to have fps issues. The problem was that the game was using the stock graphic card instead of my specific graphic card. Make sure the good graphic card is being used when launching the game. Usually for that you right click the exe and launch it with the good graphic card (there is an option for this) and make sure it keep the good setting for the next time.

oh... yea i read it properly second time :D.
If you have drops when selecting things then it is definately problem with rings... don't think there are any workarounds other than just disabling rings that you don't need.

With my old setup I had some really bizarre Windows 10 issue. It would make the game unplayable and had horrible fps lags, stuttering and generally low fps. So just as a hint, as I spent countless hours testing different drivers, hardware, Win 10 installations and so forth, you could try with some other OS if it would solve your problems.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I noticed that my fps only drops when selecting engie's for some reason. Even selecting 1 engie will make it drop from 100fps to 10.. I tried disabling all rings, but it doenst change anything.. Anyone other suggestions? Changing the OS is not really an option for me.
