OK. Imagine all the little windows and ui elements are hidden. If you zoom all the way out, the strategic view is in the middle of the screen. I want to be able to move that midpoint around the screen. The reason for this is that the maximap
is dividing the screen non-evenly when it's visible. So it gets in the way of zooming in and out and I have to make extra effort to center what I want to view close up in the visible area. I just want the strategic view to organically follow the real estate I've made available to it - almost as if the whole lot was a docked interface with no sub-windows.
I have tried the split screen function but it does not allow one half to be cartographic - this has the side effect that I get bogged down and unthinkingly mix up which side needs zooming - I automatically scroll where my eyes are following and I don't think it's a habit that I can alter at this point. It's already a bit of a pain that the minimap is zoomable but that is mostly negated by the fact that it looks very different.
What
would work is disabling mouse zoom on one half of the split screen, but I've asked before and apparently it's not practically workable.
