Some client suggestions for tourney play

Postby Little Miss Murder » 11 May 2019, 14:15

Hi guys,

I had wanted to watch some K.o.S tourney games, but I was informed that observers are not allowed because the observer setting allows dead teammates to observe too and then help their teammates. I think that this should be toggle-able so that non-playing observers don't mess with that requirement.

It also occurred to me that an element of surprise in spawn position would make sense if desired, in other words the lobby only allows you to pick one of your team spots and you can't see how the opposing team are spawning.

Aye? Nay?

Well you can watch the live replays, those are 5 minutes behind.

Observers are handled in the engine so that won't change.

Well, you could make the replays not 5 minutes behind for people having a special permission.

Then you could also allow these people as observer?

No, that interferes with the game and connection itself.

Not sure how much value a special permission to watch replays immediately would bring. It would clearly require some sort of security measure because ghosting would basically be capable of deciding any tournament game so random people being able to watch it is basically not possible. This only really leaves casters but there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference in casters waiting 5 minutes to cast the game and being able to cast the live replay? Not to mention casting the live replay still basically allows for ghosting assuming the caster has a minimap and/or doesn’t spend the whole game zoomed in on tanks so you’re back at square one.

Also there’s a lot of nuisance that observers can cause and you can’t exactly kick them out of the game unless you have mods online that can force clients closed. For example, constant taunt spamming or marker spam.

If you do not notice something like a game ender until someone ghosting tells you five minutes after it has already started, you are probably about to die in 30 seconds anyway. No reason to change I don't think.
