Reverting Balance back to the past

So, in the election thread there were some people wanting to revert the balance back to 2016. And of course we have people like dstojkov who like to go back even further.
Heck, I was most successful during vanilla original SupCom (plus Mercy), so let's roll back to that, hahah.

So anyways, to all the people who want to roll back to an older version of FAF or SupCom, I would like to propose a little thought experiment. Rather than, "I miss the good old days, things are shit now", let's pretend the current version of FAF is all that we ever had.


Your job is to describe the changes you want to make (ie. the changes required to roll back to the version you desire), and state the aim of each particular change and the reasons why you think the change will be positive.


Pretend like we have never seen this mysterious "Version 2016" before, and your job is to convince us why we would want it. So don't use phrases like, "go back to XYZ", describe it like a new thing.


As a useful side effect, this might also show which rollbacks are important to you, and which rollbacks you don't actually want (eg. most of the changes that fix bugs, I assume you don't want to roll back.)

I miss watching people crush noobs and farm rating with strat rush on ladder. Now it’s only in team games smh. Once again the balance team has LITERALLY RAPED all choice in the game.

i´m not an active player as i rather play on and off so feel free to take my words with varying ammounts of salt, laugh about them, burn them to the ground ... whatever ...

but i´m simply of the opinion that at least 1v1 competitive ballance should focus more around tier 2 groundgameplay as imo it offers the most choice of the tiers ..
naval overall seems fine and air i´m rather indifferent but would say that its focus should be on t2 as well ... so maybe allow players to transist into it sooner as i feel t1 ground and air is more a raidfocused phase than a combatphase .. maybe also extend it before t3 eventualy renders it obsolete ...

but preferably i would like to have the gap in power between tiers be tightened ..

I've been saying that for a long time!

I think T1 should be a bit like LABs, early raiding units that get phased out fairly soon. T2 should come early and be the majority of the game. T3 should be inefficient and specialised units that excel in particular situations. T4 should be big team games, stalemate breakers, for fun, etc.
