The navy wreck sinking time difference

Postby Chosen » 11 Mar 2019, 16:11

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it before but why the navy wreck sinking time difference is so high, before you can reclaim it ?
Example Cybran and Aeon wreck timing, Aeon sinking time can be a 10 seconds longer than Cybran.

I believe the speed each naval unit sinks to the bottom is determined by each naval unit's death animation, every naval unit has at least one, which is why some of them (like the Salem) will break apart like the Titanic as they sink.

I don't know enough about the animation process to do anything about it, the people that have the capability to add units into the game (presumably with their own animations) like the people behind the Nomads mod could help out there if it really is an issue.

I guess the difference is so big since there were no naval wrecks in the base game, so the lenght of the animation didnt matter. And since naval wrecks were introduced, no one really cared enough.

Either way it can be fixed, by changing the animation.
Or maybe just by adjusting the code to play the animation slower, but Im not sure about this solution.

Does the time it takes to sink actually affect gameplay? Maybe on a map like setons where the water is really deep and you need to quickly reclaim a battle ship that just died before frigates kill the 15 engineers you have next to the sinking boat. That seems like 0.001% of games though.
