Unlink STEAM requirement

When Chris Taylor gave the game to the community I believe he wanted everyone who purchased the game to be able to play and enjoy this great game. I know this is an attempt to prevent smurfs, but come on. What this current path is doing is restricting users who purchased the game by adding another level of poorly thought out red tape.

For this community to grow the community should not limit it self to another party STEAM. I have bought and used games from STEAM a few years ago. I stopped using it because steamed allowed a virus into my computer through its torrent network. So NO I will never use steam again even if its network has improved.

I'll check again in a few months to see if this requirement has been removed. For now, I'm UNINSTALLED FAF and SUP-Com. And I am not going to check this post. This is just food for thought on how the game has become "broken" in the past few years. What amazes me is that I'm actually spending the time to write this post.

what is the problem again? if you have purchased game then you have an CD key (you can't reinstall game without it)
use CD key to get game on steam (you don't need to buy game again!)
you don't have to install any game vya steam again so you don't get virus, you just need to own game
Then you can link it to your steam account and play.

!!! also why did you suddenly needed this? linking steam account is only for new registered players! did you try to create a smurf account?
if you lost access to prevous account just ask tech support to help restore it.

Edit: i also don't like steam link thingy, maybe cause i have not suffered from smurf problem last 6 years or so, but since other players get tunred away from supcom cause of smurfs i do understand and accept steam linking mechanic... Maybe we can get an invite system instead (not instead but as alternative)?

This is also an attempt to prove FAF as an entity are driving actual sales of the game instead of allowing piracy, this keeps FAF - which is already in a legal grey area - out of the cross-hairs of people who hold the games rights.

I know you'll come back and read this because you do not stick to your morals.

I get that FAF may not be in the perfect position copyright wise, but how the f*** does forcing everyone to have a steam account linked fix that?

And not to mention, 2 days notice before anyone not using steam is locked out of FAF, WTF? You implement this as if everyone on FAF already has steam, is using it and is full aware of how to go about linking it, which I'm sure is far from the reality.

Hi,

Sadly, the decision is not exactly on us. You can direct your complaints to visionik as he is the one who decided of that link for << legal reasons >>. We expected to be able to stop distributing SCFA files earlier but sadly we could not, and were left with that as the only alternative he gave us. Be sure that we rolled out the announcement as soon as we were aware of it.

Regarding the "aware about how to go linking it", we've included a picture tutorial to the announcement and we're ready to help anyone link if there's any technical difficulty.

So when I click on link account to steam is anything supposed to happen? Theres no confirmation of anything so I've no idea if its doing anything? How would I know its linked?

Edit: s'alright, worked it out in the end. I've got to say the little grey button saying 'Sign in through Steam' doesn't even look like a button to me. Thought it was an ad or something. Then I also couldn't get it to link because both the profile and game details need to be public and steam kept erroring out and not saving my profile when I updated it.

These instructions are linked from the news post in the client. Unfortunately if people who aren't linked are gonna be locked out of the client then they won't see this link. Dooohh!

keyser's picture was enough for me.

tying to link again is a good way to check whether or not it succeeded because if it did succeed then you'll get an error message stating it is already linked to "another" account. "another" being yours.
