The ladder system.

Here is a draft of how it will work :

Matchmaker ranking stays the same.
- Never reseted.
- It's used to determine your league in the ladder.

Ladder :
Reseted every season (when the map pool vote ends, every 3 months)
Divided on 5 leagues.

Scout league : (1v1 score < 500) : currently 13596 players.
T1 league : (1v1 score between 500 and 1000) : currently 393 players.
T2 league : (1v1 score between 1000 and 1300) : currently 148 players.
T3 league : (1v1 score between 1300 and 1600) : currently 93 players.
XP league : (1v1 score >1600) : currently 46 players.

- You can change league during the season (see below).

- Each league will be randomly divided in .. well, divisions of 10 players each.
(if you want some cool names for them, it's time to make me a huge list of names related to FA).

- The rank icons will only be given to ladder players, to mark their division.
- Playing the matchmaker automatically put you in a division.
- During the season, awards will be given in form of avatars as followed :
- Top 1 of each division.
- Top 3 of each league.

- Ladder matches goes through the matchmaker. It will normally put you against someone in your league or a league close to you (if you are top of bottom of your league).

- Points are accorded as follow :

+ 1 if you win a game against someone in your league.
+ 2 for each step of winning against someone in an upper league.
a T1 winning a T2 will have +2.
a T1 winning a T3 will have +4.

- 1 for each step of losing against someone of a lower league.
You lose nothing by losing against someone of your league.

- If you gather more than 30 points, and more than 150% of the second place in your league (90 points while the second is 60 for example), you will go on the upper league, and receive a special avatar for that.

- At the end of the season, the three big champions of each league will get a special avatar for one year.

Ho, and as a test, the first (half-)season will eventually start end of this week.

I love this. Great work, love to see it correctly implemented, and given the time it needs to kick off by the players.

I know that the more you play, the more you win. But that's the point.

Remember than it use the current matchmaker. It tries to put you in the 50% win ratio area (while keeping the game fair), and it's working.
So, maybe the real first season will have -1 for losing a match to even out the scores, we will see. But right now I want to encourage players to play more to win more :)

this would mean only 1 person of a league gets into the next league?
so only 1 of 13000 players?

or should it be:

or is this on the fly, meaning as soon as you have it, you get up. and if the next one gets it, he gets up too?

No. It can be more. Once the first player is gone to another league, the second one is first. If he is way ahead, he goes on the upper league too, etc...

A person that is just under T2 on the season start will probably win against anyone from his league (T1).
Then there is no challenge for the others, and more than, will often win +2 for winning a upper league.
The idea is that such person will swap into another league.

Or if there is no competition in scout league, the top of that league will directly go to T1 to have some fun.

It shouldn't happen that often (the % obviously will need tweaking).

The placement in leagues and the creation of divisions is done.

Now, I have to implement the score changes (should be trivial), and we are done for season 0 (well, I need to make some web pages too :-/)

What happens to the old system, and that ratings?
And the new system is to be implemented in a few days?
To bad I wont be able to play it as soon as it comes out... places to go, people to see...

i really like the idea of leagues, although it looks strange that the 1000~1300 league has only players of 300 rating while the others have 500 or an undefinded amouth (xp league)...

also few questions:
> will we all start with 0 rating (scout league) at the beginning of a season? or are we already in a certain league?
> will there maybe be a profile page where you can check who your "groupmates" (the 10-people thingy) are, what avatars you already had (and their duration until they're expired)
> will the avatars have a special look, are they already decided? i suggest using some looking like the old gpg clan symbols, they'd fit this pretty fine
