T1 Bomber firing cycle issue.

Postby JoonasTo » 22 Oct 2018, 08:21

So I got three games in the last few days where my Seraphim T1 bombers were unable to drop bombs on their targets due to them moving towards them/slight changes in terrain causing the target to appear too close/fast. Why is this? Is the reload on a bomber too long compared to the small turning circle now? So it can’t reload in time? Or does this have to do with the targeting AI and the physics?

I would like to point out that there was no micro involved from either side, just units moving diagonally to the bomber that had an attack order on them.

If I find time I’ll try to create this in a sandbox but no promises, pretty busy week incoming.

Had this happen yesterday with a cybran bomber as well. Did some sandboxing today and it's pretty hard to reproduce consistently.

It definitely looks like something to do with the angle of approach between the bomber and the spot it wants to lay the bomb. The bomber seemed to be fine dropping sideways a lot of the time but sometimes in angles that to me seemed shallower it was unable to do so.

Needs more testing

i noticed that too... bombers were buffed with their shorter turns, but if target moves right behindn bomber it may turn early and unable to drop bomb

As always, the solution is CARPET BOMBING.

I feel like the physics based bombing is constantly giving problems, ever since it was introduced. It's not even necessarily realistic since RL bombs come in high drag, low drag, and guided types.

SupCom at release had the bombs dropping straight down if the bomber passes over any target, and it was glorious.

I think it's time to ditch this faulty physics bombing in favour of a much more reliable and epic solution.

It's probly a code error that might not take into consideration lateral/vertical vectorial acceleration. sometimes Aeon bombers can't drop on engies moving tangentially to their direction of movement even within turn rate and distance. they will just fly over them. Might be reproduceable with a bomber click on the side of it's movement path opposite to engie movement and location, then targeting the engie.
