Adjancey Bonuses

Postby Crazy Cossack » 07 Oct 2018, 02:20

In the course of a game, I will build factories adjacent to mexes to get adjancey bonuses. This means later on I can only put maybe two mass stores next to a mex because it has two factories already adjacent to it. When I get that mex to T2 is this costing me mass income? Does anyone know the answer off the top of their head? If not, I guess I need to do a little test and calculate it. :)

Since Adjacency bonus is percentage based - the mass you save versus what you might produce with storage is directly related to the mass cost and time of the unit you choose to build in the factory. The more expensive the more you save.

T2 mex base production is 6 M/s
Single storage adds 0.75 M/s (12.5%)
T2 mex adjacent to land / air factory gives 10% discount

So you should produce stuff in the factory that would normally take at least 7.5 M/s for it to break even.

Also see the FAF wiki;
https://wiki.faforever.com/index.php?ti ... _Reduction

Note that adjacency percentages were changed a few times in balance patches. E.g.; adjacency to Quantum Gate was nerfed.

So if you have facs with and without adjacency, it's most economic to build the units that drain the most mass per tick while producing int he factories with adjacency.

You can also check the unit DB;
http://direct.faforever.com/faf/unitsDB/
To figure out build costs and build times.

E.g.; Cybran T2 mobile AA costs 160 Mass and 800 "time". In a T2 fac with 40 buildpower that is 20 seconds. 160 Mass / 20 seconds = 8 Mass/s.
Discount due to T2 mex is 0.8M; more than the 0.75 you miss out on producing. And you also saved a 200 mass costing storage

The Cybran T2 tank however takes 33 seconds at 9 M/s; so 0.9 discount.

But I'm not sure if roll-off time is included anywhere.

another thing is - factory adjacency is only useful if factory is building something, otherwise it does nothing and mex is acting like its not adjacent to anything (no advantage), unlike storage adjacency which constantly gives more mass whether you are building or not

To maximise efficiency you should put factories next to as few mexes as possible so if you need 4 facs put them all around the same mex, need 8 facs put them all around 2 mexes. You should then upgrade these mexes to t2 first as they are already "capped", and then eco as normal then upgrade these mexes to t3 last as they will give the smallest bonus for the upgrade. The reduction goes from 10% for adjacent t2 mex to 12.5% for adjacent t3 mex.
The bonus for having a t3 mex capped is way better, as the bonus comes from the amount of mass the mex is producing, which triples when upgraded, instead of the percentage off on the draw of the factory, which increase by a quarter.
