I’d like to put my hat in the ring as well.
I have been in FAF for a few years now, although I only really started interacting with the community at large within the last two years. Perhaps you’ve seen some of my old cringey balance posts, noticed me on the various discord servers, or played with me ingame. I also tend to lurk a bit, staying updated on any events, conversations, or drama. I frequently play in every tournament I can, whether it’s FAF, Equilibrium, or even Mapping.
I am actually already part of the promotions team, although I admit that I haven’t put out much so far (I’m currently using my university lab time to produce an overhaul of the basic interface tutorial, with all the new features of FAF). I’ve dabbled a bit in maps, mods, scripting, casting, streaming, and even some ICE-Testing. Though not enough to consider myself an expert in any of these fields, I consider my FAF experience greatly enriched by these activities, and can understand the viewpoints of most, if not all people in FAF. I generally get along well with everyone and can take criticism.
As part of my plan as promotional councillor, I would categorise my target audience for promotion into two categories: The first would be to the people who do not play FAF. Obviously, advertising for people who don’t even know about supreme commander is difficult, and to some degree it is up to them to find their way here. But as a community we should strive to put our best and most recent content forward. This means constantly updating our what's new pages, social media, announcements, and forum posts with news, events, features, and other content that would draw prospective players, such as videos, streams, and art. The second group consists of existing FAF users who play the game, but avoid interacting with the community at large. I know that playing the game is what drew all of us here in the first place, but the truth of the matter is that there’s SO MUCH MORE to FAF. From personal experience and talking to others, I can say that contributing to the community, even if it’s something as simple as talking to others, makes the experience greater for everyone involved. Those are the people who stay with FAF for the long term, who get really good at the game, who lend a hand developing features/content for FAF. To these people I will constantly encourage them to join in. I have several ideas for this, such as mod/map/meme making workshops or cocasts with other content creators.
I would also like to start shining light on some of our more unknown content creators. I often spend time finding small channels like AlyxDelunar and TheSlothGamer, and other casters/streamers (did you know that Yolo has a recent video of a near perfect Setons air BO? Or that Oxide Ion has tutorials on hoverbombing?). I want to bring all the underrated channels and creators to light, both to reward them, and encourage new users to step forward.
As far as management of our social media goes, I would gladly take on the responsibility for managing the Faf Twitter, Facebook, and other outlets if need be. I don’t really have any special plans for this. I would of course make sure it is updated frequently, and have a bit of skill in graphic design.
My ingame name is Evan_ and I am online often in the morning and afternoon (afternoon and evenings for euro timezones). I would be happy to answer any questions, comments, or feedback, both on discord and aeolus.
As a nominee for the Promoters Councillor, I pledge that:
I will dedicate at least 4+ hours a week to my role, including attending conferences
I will advertise all new content that FAF provides using all available social media platforms.
I will fix the !streams command
I understand that if I am unable to perform accordingly, I will be replaced.
