If I download the FAF client, is it only used as a lobby app or does it also bring new units and game updates? I mainly play against the AI anyways.

Only new unit is T3 mobile anti-air, unless you want to count engy-mod factories as new units. Yes, the updates will exist if you play through the client even if you are not playing against another player.

FAF also will have a function to load custom AI's from the mod folder.

If you are interested you can already test this if you start the FAF develop version.
At the moment there are 2 new AI's in development.

They will be available after the AI tournament. See:
