I can confirm that.
My FX-8120 OC to 4200 does not allow the use of all 8 cores without overheating the VRM on the motherboard, and since one unit of the four, with two cores, is way more voltage inefficient than the others, I have shut it down.
Testing with only 4 cores, and choosing those to be on the same half of the L2 cache, causes an exponential loss in performance on full speed replays, starting on after 100% cpu utilization.
Shifting the 4 core selection to use all L2 cache makes perfomance linear, without any noticeably excessive fps drops.
