Wondering about the video production quality for FAF

I NEED YOU
In short:
I aim to bringing high production content with variety.
-Tutorials, showcases, play of the weeks, streams, etc.

I'm trying to present events that are nice to see. In this video's circumstance, team-play.

Here's the video link I'd like some feedback on
https://youtu.be/YLE8ZBJgdHw?list=PLfox ... N48thIrFvN
Image

The overall goal is still to increase new player adoption.

Feedback I've received so far:
1:Hard to understand what is going on. I'm assuming this is the color coordinating to players, and overall progression of a match isn't clear to follow. This I agree with. I had 4 hours to work on this (88 hour work week so far, plus full time student and building a house myself on days off).

This is open ended. I want to know what I'm doing right and wrong.

PS: I didn't realize I rendered the video at 30fps until I uploaded, I usually upload at 60fps (including streams at 9,000kbs).

Have a great day all. GL&HF

I very much like the style of your videos. Only feedback I could give is maybe turn down the 'speed' of everything flashing along the screen a bit. Before I had the time to read what was being typed, it was already gone :D. I think this is close to the feedback you already received. Anyway, nice job! Really good content :)

Ya I'm trying really hard to keep them bite size, and you're right. Making the videos quick shouldn't take away from the ability to ingest information :) I'll keep that in mind thanks

Hey,

I wanted to stop watching after a min, forced myself to keep watching for another 10 s, then I turned it off.
The clip feels like a Michael Bay edit where he tries to put in as many cuts and edits as humanly possible in the shortest amount of time. No sense of space or time. I have no idea what is going on in the replay, no idea where each location of the players is, no idea what actually happens.
I literally gave up thinking and just watched the tags and cuts fly at and over me. Your video forces me to go braindead because otherwise I would get too frustrated trying to make sense of what is presented. There is simply no time due to the sheer wave of cuts, edits, tags, sound changes, even a speech. It's like you look in your fridge Wednesday night, find all sorts of odd stuff and throw it all in the blender, hoping for a good meal with 21 odd ingredients.

I d hope for more structure, clarity, sense of space (where is everything) and time (when is everything). Also, some consistency.
I see you got the editing skills, which is great. More isn't always more. I wished you wouldnt overflow my brain with that amount of short-lived information.

Great you seek feedback and great how you put together a video in the first place! Hope I was not too negative.
Cheers!

Thank you for your honest feedback. I'll add it to my data sheet. I'm an empirically driven individual. I have no experience in video editing outside of what I've put together in the past few months.

If you don't mind Looking through these and telling me if you find it more "followable".
Play of the Week: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... ibnh-cNYKh

Although the video I asked for help on was more an acknowledgement of teamwork, I certainly understand the frustration given the analytical demographic I'm working with lol.

I'm trying to make videos bite sized while entertaining with high production as that specific approach seems to be lacking in the community.

Suggestions?
I was thinking about adding a live map of the game so people could view that if they get a little lost. A fast approach is difficult to execute secondary to the nature of the game I'm dealing with. So combining an quick bite sized entertainment seems impossible unless I do away with the fast approach.

I'm open to suggestions, more minds is better than one.

Also, remember that my channels goal is to bring more retainable player adoption to faf. Secondary objectives being a source of entertainment for current faf players.

Don't take this the wrong way: May I suggest watching more than 1min10sec. I'd like informed input for the whole video. Thanks for any suggestions, keep it coming.

I just watch the "Supreme Commander Forged Alliance: Play of the Week 1" and it's is much easier to follow because there is less on the screen which binds my attention (though the music regularly is too loud). Also, no crazy camera zooms from the left, the right, to the center.
In the latest video there are so many zooms (which I finished watching), similiar coms (UEF), cuts, a speech, John Travolta, chatbox, text overlays, flying sun glases - all ALL of that within seconds. Attention is a finite resource and with all the "sh*t" flying around I really must wonder: what do YOU want ME to look at? You are the director and orchestrate where my attention most likely will go.
The latest video is pretty much equivalent to this great website xD

https://www.lingscars.com/

If EVERYTHING is "important", nothing is.
What do you want me to take out of the video? Do you want me to look at Travolta or your text or the chat or the game? I may be able to grasp all of it when shown in sequence, but not all at once within 2 s.

Does it make sense to display 8 players with rating, name, faction and team + text from you for 2 s? Do you want me to pause the game to read it or is it irrelevant?

Talking in aeolus about it prolly will be easier :)

Don't get me wrong, I spend time on answering here because I appreciate what you do! Thanks!

You are getting better in technics, but keep in mind that you are a storyteller and the story your telling must be intelligible in one shot.
