Suggestion: Galactic Organization for a Galactic War

Postby Assembler » 28 Dec 2017, 19:53

The idea of the Galactic War game mode is to have two (or more?) masses of players battling each other in one massive war.

However, this would just be like two or more rabbles brawling. Chaos. And the chaos would even out, creating a stagnant war zone.

When you have large groups, the result is aggregated. So not much losses, and not much gains.

The result is a war with many raging battles but which doesn't really go anywhere.

In order for it to go somewhere, it needs direction. And that means it needs organization.

Organization to form organizations organized like real life military organizations.

And, just like real-life military organizations, there needs to be leadership.

There needs to be leaders and followers, a hierarchy, a power structure.

We can have two separate wars, one for the freewheeling, the directionless and those who hate to take orders, and one for those who desire some order, direction, and organization as they don't wish to fight aimlessly.

How can we create a power structure? Perhaps through a system of elections and appointments.

What are your thoughts on this idea?

Note that these are just vague outlines, we can discuss the details in-depth. A lot more details are mentioned in subsequent posts.

You don't elect people into military leadership.

FtxCommando is right.

Enhancing Galactic wars is a good idea. But elections are not a well suited system. Some games got an auto ranking /promotion system depending on war effort contribution.

There will be ranks in GW, higher rank usually gets more authoritah, so last time they ended up deciding what to do.
Those who reached high ranks were also usually high rated players, so others listened to them.

What about POTUS? He's elected by the people of America, and he's Commander-in-Chief of the US military might.

I think its possible to come up with some system of elections.

FAF users register to vote, then elections commence. Only thing we have to worry about is voter fraud. Lol
There could be too many false registrants.

Poor analogy considering the Chief of Staff has the authority to supercede a presidential order if they deem it to be unconstitutional. You don't elect a military dictator. The last US President to stand up to the military brass was Eisenhower who, coincidentally, was already top military brass.

You don't get to vote on military plans. You're a cog in the machine and you will do what you are told. The whole point of boot camp is getting you to realize that, really.

How much could they do though?

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with GW, the last time it was actually executed was aeons ago? :)

So back to how much they can do:

Let's examine the classic board game RISK.

Each side has tiny soldier pieces on the board representing troop strength. One side can keep winning and keep gaining troops, while the other side can keep losing and keep bleeding troops.

And the RISK player decides where to send his troops. "I wanna move them from this territory to that territory."

Galactic War isn't like RISK. The strategic options are pretty limited.

But imagine if it was like RISK. A troop surge in one region could be undertaken. An invasion could be launched into another region. Or a region could be heavily fortified with more troops.

It opens up a whole new strategic ballgame. The war is no longer largely aggregate. Suddenly, there's direction, and drama.

Of course, we'll need a way to transition between the results of many RTS battles and the RISK-like board game.

But back to the troop movement thing first. Who will make decisions on the troop movements?

Obviously, we'll need a leader to make the important decisions. And leaders should be elected, we believe in democracy. haha

If voter fraud doesn't mess things up, that is. (not talking about 2016 US Pres election, just FAF elections)
