if games with more variety in the game flow are wanted, it would be really easy to implement this (one slot is picked at random and the mirror spot is used for the other player, however this works only for maps with odd-vs-even spots).
It could even be applied to adaptive maps where - in addition to the player spawns - some expansions are generated (i.e. the "close-spawn mex" function on randomly selected 1-2 spots) and some of the options are rolled at random too (i.e. the number of water mex, or the amount of mex in the center...). On most adaptive maps the names of the options are standardized so the implementation of this would be rather easy too.
