spy planes broken

Postby Shai--Hulud » 27 Nov 2017, 03:19

Hi,

just had a Gap game (ID 7108723, see min. 42) and it really feels like spy planes /stealth / intel is broken. I had stealth in my base and the enemy had no omni in range that would have generated my stealth useless. The only intel my enemy got was from spy planes he kept sending to my base. However, there was a wall of sams in the middle of the map so that the spy planes got shot down while flying over the mountain mid. The wrecks crashed close to my base (if not in my base) due to the high velocity of the planes.

The result: The flying planes didn't get anywhere near my base and still they generated intel for my opponent. Even worse: not only did he see that there were units in my base (grey squares) but he even saw all the unit icons. even units right next (!) to the stealth shield. A million sams killed spy planes in the middle of the map and still he got all the intel in the world. clearly something is broken here. at least it shouldn't be possible to get intel about which units exactly there are in my base.

Was your opponent Sera ? If he was then you should know more about your enemies capability. Sera spy planes create a vision entity that travels with the wreck and create a temporary vision entity that lasts for a short time after death.

Also, structures, once seen or detected, are always on intel. Only mobile units are removed by the stealth field.

No. SAMs aren't there to hardcounter spy planes, so I don't understand how you think something here is broken. Might as well as complain that you can amass enough strats to snipe someone even though they're under sams/shield cover.

If you're so bothered by people looking at your base then make asf and block spy planes actively.

Don't have time to watch replay, but it does not look like something weird is happening.
just in case if somebody didn't know: all air scouts wrecks provide intel as they fall down (except t1 sera air scout) (wreck is also counts as "falling down" when it sinks in water afaik)
scout wrecks provide radar, sonar, and visual scouting, even tho there is no indication of any of them. Especially confusing not seeing visual ring but still revealing gray units.

on GAP this effect can be magnifyed by montains, scout fly very high trying to get over the montain and maybe when they get shot down they fly longer cause they were killed higher.

there is also a bug with a scout wreck giving permanent intel, but i think it is only related to offmap+water situations.

falling air units still provide vision: this is not even limited to just scout planes or spy planes but on them it becomes very obvious since they have a very high speed
the sera t1 scout plane provides additional vision at the crash site of the wreck but that has nothing to do with the fact that the falling air unit still gives intel
units giving intel when crashing in the water offmap was fixed in 3680

also @Shai-Hulud i think you made this kind of thread before so i'd expect you to already know how this works :>

@sprouto btw the sera spy plane (spy planes are t3 and scout planes are t1) does not have the ability to give intel on the crash site of the wreck - only the sera scout plane does

Question: can/will this "issue" be fixed?
I'm 100% ok with some planes being able to scout even if deadas their special ability. Though other planes that specifically do not have such ability shouldn't provide intel after their sensor package has been turned into a glowing hole from a direct hit from a SAM

you're playing a video game with giant robots and laser cannons

i hope planes giving some intel while crashing doesn't bother you too much
imo removing this "feature" from the game would make defending easier and i'm not sure why we should do that

you guys also should keep in mind that removing intel from crashing air scouts would make cybran stealth a lot more valuable especially in navy fights - maybe to such an extent in lategame navy fights that sera and especially aeon won't be able to keep up with them anymore

i get that it is not very intuitive that your base gets scouted by a crashing scout plane that you shut down at your line of defense but imo you'll have to deal with that and maybe kill scouts earlier if you want to hide a surprise attack

Hmmm, would the shield bounce effect remove this effect?
What happens if a scout plane crashes on a shield now?
