F*** this game. What a toxic f****** community.

Last year my friend bought me SupCom and SupCom:FA for Chistmas. I quickly became addicted. I ran through the campaigns as each faction, gained an understanding of the mechanics and gradually increased the difficulty settings until I was about the beat all 3 factions in hard mode (I know this is not really that difficult a thing to do). I kept playing the campaigns on hardmode learning as much as I could. The game became too easy, I started watching videos from Gyle, and Brink, watching skirmishes and trying to pick up strats. I finally decided to download FAF so I could get in on the game, I was excited. That excitement quickly turned into bitterness.

First there was my ignorance. I didn't know without doing 1v1 ladders you still get a Global Ranking. I lost 2 games in a row the first day but I was not discouraged, in order to win first you have to lose some. The next day I came back and my score was not 0 it was -200. I tried to join a few games, I was quickly but politely kicked out, "too low." I tried to be more selective about the games I picked, selecting rooms that would say "All Welcome" or "nooobs+200CPU." But these rooms were less friendly "refaf n00b", "gtfo reroll." After getting into a few more games I finally lost 2 more, with a severe beat down in "noob friendly" rooms then I was down to (-400). Finally 2 days ago I finally won a game, I was ecstatic, I thought things might finally be turning around! Back to -200 today I start up a game Lobby says noob friendly or some shit. Get in host seems legit, he's kicking players with too high of a score, I'm like ok. Learn a little bit of jargon sitting in the lobby waiting for the roster to fill up. "That guys a smurf" "Try and get the balance above 75% this time."

The host was ************, I should have saw from his name that he was a republitarded, backstabber (****************************), I didn't realize how devious he was until just before the game started. After everyone had joined it seemed well balanced, the 71.x% but then he moved the low people all into one group and him and the higher people all into his group. I tried to eco well, capture as much eco as I could and quickly upgrade my ACU. I've attached the fafreplay file. I know you'll probably all judge me and tell me I'm such a bad player, I made so many mistakes. I fucking know that. But you s****** only insult noobs, no advice, no comradery, just a bunch of ... very nice players who respect each other ... sometimes (edit by Voodoo) I'm out.

If you don't like other hosts, then host your own game.

Not sure why you feel the need to write a book in order to explain why you want to leave, though. The simple minds of us poor Republicans can't read more than 150 characters. Not that I believe anything you wrote because, I mean, switching people around when everyone is x'd is a clunky process that un-x's anyone that was x'd up. This means that not only were you spacing out for a solid 45 seconds while this shit was going on in lobby, but those that were moved around for this """stack""" were all too stupid to realize it was a stack. Please cease the victimization.

P.S. Public shaming is in poor taste and doesn't do anything but increase tension. *Insert EaSy LiBtArD jOkE here*

You'll find games stacked against you will make you lose less rating if you - lose. but the payout is higher when you win. I'm not personally sure if you're mad about the game itself or if you're just here to spew your garbage political agenda, both are unwanted and im not sure if this thread will still be here by this time tomorrow.

About the game, you'll not learn anything from playing Astro Crater Battles, my recommendation for you would be to go to the tutorial section of the FAF wiki and read some guides, i wrote some of them even; http://wiki.faforever.com/index.php?tit ... ing_SupCom

Once you get the basics underhand, contact a trainer if you need any more help.
We cannot help you with your inability to accept election results however, that is better left to a psychologist.

As a dota 2 player, FAF is heaven compared to dota 2.(Which may explain why Feather is so toxic since hes a dota 2 player Kappa).

Zahr:
Hell no. Steam's version is a lot better balanced than your garbage.

The community isn't nice to new players. That is true but I can also understand this. You are waiting a long time to get a game running and some people don't have time for a second game. So they think it's better to kick new players because they could be so bad that there is no chance for the team to win the game.

Anyway, there are also a lot of great guys around here. Have a look at our trainer team for example. Search a player who will support you a little bit. You won't be kicked from a lobby if a "high" rated player speaks for you.

You can also pm me. I haven't played for some time but I think I can still pown ^^

Hello and welcome to FAF stillbourne.
I'm sorry to hear that your initial experience with the community has been a bad one. In case you are reading this i'll just explain a few things.

About rating:
We have two rating systems here. One is for the 1v1 ladder and the other is for custom games. This is because custom games (which are team games for the most part) tend to play very different compared to 1v1 games on maps you can't choose in advance.

About the campaign:
The campaign doesn't teach new players how to play properly against other players. It's nice to get used to some game mechanics and learning how to control units etc but you shouldn't expect to be any good at playing against other people after beating a scripted AI.

About hosting:
"refaf" means that you restart your FAF client. This is required if you don't have a port mapped to your local IP address and thus you use a proxy which doesn't always connect to everyone in the lobby.
As someone has pointed out already -> if the game quality is low (the host stacks a game against you) then you lose very little points and the team that wins will win little points. If you manage to win a game that is stacked against you then you will gain a lot of points and the team that had the advantage in terms of rating points will lose a lot.
A lot of lower rated users have a hard time understanding why and how they lost a game so throwing around accusations like "cheats" or "smurfs" happens quite often.

About people you dislike:
You can add users to your foe list by right clicking on the username in the user list in #aeolus and selecting the "add foe" button. This will cause you to not see any messages they write in the irc and they cannot pm you anymore. Furthermore you will see lobbies that they host or have joined marked so you can easily avoid joining them.
Should you run into a very vile person then feel free to report the player. The moderators will take a look at your complaint and act according to the rules.

Some tips on how to have a better experience as a new player:
Try the coop campaign. The difficulty of the missions has been increased a decent bit for the higher difficulty and playing those missions with other people is a lot more fun. If you play with people who know more about the game than you do then they might also be able to teach you a thing or two in a coop game where you are not under the competitive stress of online multiplayer.
Try playing ladder. There are no hosts to stack the game against you (although you will get matched against stronger opponents the first few games you play due to the way the rating system works). There are also no nasty teammates that might get frustrated if the game doesn't go well for them.
Try hosting your own games. You can be the person who hosts better games than the guy who stacks for his side. Shouldn't be too hard to get people to join if the alternative is someone like that.

Some tips on how to become a better player:
Someone has already linked the wiki so i'll not do that again.
Heaven has a nice Youtube channel with lots of tutorials for new (and old) players. He also takes replays to review if you send him a pm via the forum (as long as it fulfills certain criteria)
Join a clan. Some clans will take in new players and maybe even train those who are willing to learn a thing or two.

I sincerely hope you give this game another chance since it's pretty good. And while there might be some people here who are not easy to get along with, most of them are just regular people who want to have a good time playing a nice rts.
Whatever you do. Good luck and have fun.

I'd say yeah go for the trainers. most pros are often looking to take on an apprentice. (not all of course but alot)

and then try to buff up a bit I mean this IS the internet you'll cross alot of tripe across your adventures there but you can't just roll on the ground and throw a fit everytime you encounter assholes on the internet ...cuz lemme tell ya: there. are. a. lot.

but I'm sorry to have to correct you on this :

From my 13-years of online gaming experience across nearly 100 different online titles FAF is by far the least toxic community I've ever encontered.

but as with every community. at the bottom of the melting-pot... along with the least talented... you'll always find the low-lifes of the world.

and YES FAF has SOME. .....but trust me on this you have no CLUE how that compares to say lol dota ....ANY other multiplayer game.

remember that FAF isn't very accessible. most idiots can't stomach a game like this. they go for games with lower (or "loWEST") barrier-to-entry.

that's why as Voodoo expertly suggested you should pick up a trainer this way you skip all that bullshit entirely and get the absolute best FAF multiplayer experience.
