I3 6100 pretty good

Postby six » 13 Jun 2017, 14:01

i use to run an old i7 920 no overclock and that posted 261 on faf cpu score
Then changed to an i5 6400 that posted 186
now i have an i3 6100 that posts at 162
i am running on the onboard grahics and i am pretty happy with it
managed to get the chip memory and motherbaord for £122.50 power consumption will be alot less as i was running with a graphics card before.
looks like i will be able to get most of my money back by selling the i7 kit on ebay

Anyone look for a low cost upgrade this is the best root

The only thing that disappoints me is the company i bought my chip and memory from sent it out in the worst packaging i have ever seen . they were just wrapped in brown paper inside a bubble wrap bag . i was a bit worried that it would not work as the memory stick was bent . The chips pins could have easily got bent
Would be interesting to see what scores people with the new ryzen chips are getting

There is whole Ryzen thread already, and all you do is bait. Also going from i5 to i3 of the same gen... just why?

Okay guy switches from first gen core i7 to sixth gen core I5 okay all is in place here as the higher IPC can deal with the smaller thread count, and then he goes and buys i3 of the same gen? Like what is the reason to do so? There is none. Even the Igpu is exactly the same, the only difference is the core count, cache and slightly lower TDP which is of no consequence as it's mere 18W?

And he asks for ryzen scores in the end when there is already whole thread about that. Even more he states the obvious thing about the cpu scores for FAF as anyone knowing a thing about cpu would know what to expect.

"i am always a fan of good tech that works" - then you should start by starting to use the forum properly as it seems like looking up the scores by yourself is too much of hurdle.

^ reread this carefully ^

also you could be nice and add a link:

Ryzen 5 for FAF
But i don't think there is much useful info there, apart from some benchmarks.

Well what happened to the i5 that he had?
Also it's normal price for this kind of setup if buyed used. Actually the prices are starting from 100 pounds for i3 6100 with at least 1 year warranty, atx MB with 1 year warranty and 4gb of brand new ram. But yeah I may just reacted to harshly not knowing what happened to that bloody I5.

Ps: Ryzen 1500x at 4ghz scores 190 points on faf.

The igpu on both dies is exactly the same, the only difference is the boost clock which is 1.05ghz for i3 and 0.95ghz for I5 which isn't really much but can work wonders when the low's are higher for that fev fps as it will make the game look way smoother when you are already playing on low fps count.

But yeah for faf and other games the I3/pentiums are the best bung for buck you can get and nothing will change it. And yeah sorry for my reaction but the way you phrased your first post threw me little bit off especially with the the i5 part that didn't make sense at all.
