Changing camera controls

Postby Zranja » 11 Jun 2017, 11:53

Hello, how do you change camera move controls to WASD from arrow keys. I can't seem to change it in the settings. I have also searched on the forums but nothing specific. I struggle with quickly looking into specific areas of the map as I reflexly go for WASD keys, it just ruins the experience for me. Thanks.

F1 is the keybinding menu.

can't check right now but I do believe panning up-down-right-left are in there under 'camera controls'

I just gotta help a beginner out here though :

Your gameplay and game experience will just increase tenfold if you never ever pan in this game again.

I know that's it's virtually the only game to do this but it's also the one solution that outclasses them all in terms of performance and results and UI working with you rather than against you : zoom out and in rather than pan.

it's faster
more efficient
more informative (you'll glimpse extra important things as you do so you otherwise wouldn't notice)
it's faster (I say it twice with intent)

every other RTS would have been and would be better if they also disposed of strat zoom. (bigger learning curve but the payoff is immense and far outclasses the minor initial learning effort)

Whilst zooming out and zooming in is better for playing, I do wish streamers and casters would pan or teleport the camera instead. The total-screen changes caused by zoom seems to really overload the compression on video.

Thank you for the tips. I'll try to change my technique. I would definitely need quite a bit of practice, because I always reflexly press the W key.

the compression used by idiots

I joke. no but seriously though it's 2017.

how can people still not know what we've unlocked with ffmpeg + H.264 encoding in FLV or MP4 or MKV wrapper.

it's fukking nuts. thanks to the H.264 codec you can encode at basically lossless quality at a less then a tenth of the filesize. Finally the cpu can keep up with what's happening on the screen at 1080p and more and record it.

keeping up means no tearing.

and the smaller file sizes means you can stream at near lossless 1080p too over even basic 8M/s internet.

which explains why OBS opted for the ffmpeg + H.264 + FLV combo. (honestly i don't understand why everyone didn't wanna upscale MKV and roll with that but I'm down with whatever so longs as AVI dies in a fire)

but yeah. video tearing is a thing of the past. and I know what you mean if you use garbage like fraps Supcom will give you alot of that but then again any car game will give you a hundred times more of that in fraps.

just tell those streamers / gamers to adopt the better tech and stop using software level codecs and use the hardware level ones.
