Protest against locking forum threads

Postby nine2 » 06 Jun 2017, 04:02

Blackheart's balance thread just got locked on the forums. I protest strongly. This is suppression of free thought. I see the forum moderators do this a lot - another example is people complaining about code changes etc. Basically, Blackheart should have the right to talk on forums. So long as he isnt hostile, he should be allowed to express whatever he wants.

If you want to block something, block rogue compartmentalization of the community like Softly and djsto.

You could argue that the team doesnt have the resources to monitor and respond to long diatribes or whatever. That is fine - but you can just move it to some "dark" part of the forum instead.

I'd also like to note that I asked for information regarding how balance councilors are chosen and the thread was locked by a person who would have that information and didn't think it was relevant enough to inform people about it.

I locked the thread because it was a necro which added absolutely nothing to the original part of the thread, rather it devalued it. It has nothing to do with blackheart, it has to do with image posts, one liners and other worthless crap in the balance forum.

I was voted in by the council.

Right, I know how you came to the position. What I'm asking about is if you were going to be replaced, what are the steps that have to be taken place.

Is there a period where elections can be held? Do you have to be on the balance team already? Is it a direct election from people within faf or just the balance team? Do people have to wait for when you are tired of the position or when the Council no longer wants you responsible?

This seems like critical information for those that are displeased with the current situation and the vagueness of it all makes it hard to form any sort of serious plan of action.

There's currently no fixed or otherwise time bounded term period for any of the council positions.

You could start by convincing the other councillors why there needs to be a replacement. Election period and details of such replacement would be detailed after it has been determined that there's a need for such, which we currently don't believe there is.

Sheeo, the current political structure on FAF is that of a communist regime. Councilors are appointed by a minority, not elected. While there are several roles that have the aim of improving the experience for all, such as server maintenance, moderators, there are roles that affect players experience for the better or worse.

The problem with not having fixed terms is that it is unclear what balance councilors are aiming to achieve in concrete measures and by when this will take place.
How can we hold a balance councilor to account when his aim of balancing the races is so vague and takes such a long time. Diversity somehow has crept into this balancing act. Things like the mml which were fine got changed to make them more interchangeable. Cybran strengths are being eroded because people dont know how to play srtaphim or because setaphim doesnt match there playstyle.
There is a player councilor from whom i have not seen a single opinion poll to gage the sentiment, opinion or other to the community, except for one thread which no one knew about except his friends (something about which races are good at what tech level or something).
There is nothing wrong in having fixed terms because if the councilor is doing well and the community approves, reelection is very likely. Someone might interpret something into a refusal to call an election...

Please keep going. With every post you make you ensure that Jagged would get elected by the community should we have a vote on the Balance Councilor position.
