How meaningless is rating in this game?

Just watched a -100 own a 800 into the ground. So much for rating. . .

If both noobs have little to no games, yes, its meaningless and this is normal. Rating requires some games to be accurate like in any other game.

The rating has a meaning with 50+ games.

Other thing is that with people under 1000 rating it's bit harder, as they might learn to do one thing, and be decent at it, but if you put them into different scenario, they might fail even against someone with lower rating who does know that different scenario.

see the rating more as way to put people into a group than allowing a person to person compairson.
0-1400 casual
1400-1800 competitivie
1800 and higher good

How competetive a game is depends largely on the action you see in the game. The map decides that. There are maps where you've got one player who absolutely has to eco up completely and then start building stuff to fight with. But there are also maps where everyone has to rush in like mad.

Eco wars are rather boring. Whoever does it slightly better at the start and throughout the game, will win. However if your player is eco-ing all the time while his opponent is helping his allies grind you into dust, then something goes wrong.

It doesn't excuse how toxic you were when you lost.

It feels as if you're just whining, and want to be praised for something you should be doing at that rank anyway (which is admittedly something I've done too http://forums.faforever.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13608&hilit=gap#p139990)

Pretty sure I've made a list about this and how rating tends to follow certain patterns.
Its quite accurate as to a persons ability. If youre in the <1000 rating you tend not to know what youre doing in general.
It comes naturally with experience and brain cells.

for instance, i saw a lovely player named corsair attempt to do a comdrop onto a wounded player. But he then wanted to live as well. SO he ended up dying for nothing. And RQd.
I could see his thought process. But experience would tell him it was a poor strategy.

Kinda like if I'm air, i tell people if they die to mercies its their own fault for not building flak, being in too deep, or both.
And hell, up to 1500-1600 they still die to this shit.

TLDR: Rating is a very accurate measurement of how retarded you are at the game, in a game where basically everyone is in one way or another brain damaged in their own special way.
