tools to manage other players

Postby Gruffman » 26 Mar 2017, 18:58

What tools or mods are available to keep track of people you don't want to play with, usually for cpu speed or data behind issues?

Eg if i set up a lobby can I stop them entering? Or if i enter someones else lobby can I be warned about them?

If these things don't exist is it possible to make them? I dont get much free time to faf and its so frustrating how much time you lose on bad games due to the ppl who don't know or possibly care that they are ruining the game for maybe 11 other players. Even a player who leaves unbalances the game.

you can look them up in aeolus and add them as foe

their lobbies or lobbies they are in will show up red thereby notifying you you shouldn't join them

if you are the host you can just kick them (I'm not sure if they show up red or not within host)

Side note : I would recommend against this sort of behavior. Vivre-ensemble is a crucial element to community games. learn to be more lenient on your foe policies. but if it's only for one or two people then I completely understand. there are always one or two assholes relative to another person per group of thousands.

That's not a bad start. But couldn't the software autoflag players for example after 20 ppl have flagged them as having some basic issue that means they cannot meaningfully participate in team games. And then everyone sees their names in red. SO we wouldnt all individually have to foe every player with a poor connection/cpu

see that's up to personal preference/appreciation. can you numerically draw a line in the sand? I doubt it. what is "meaningfully participate"? are you an expert in faf? is anyone?

Just to stress - I am not against new players etc. Just people who have a machine or internet connection that means they cannot run a 8+ player game..ever...

I simply mean cannot run the game. Playing ability doesn't come into it.

We've all had games where a guy drops out as the game starts. Does it again after a rehost. I want to foe that guy with ease. Or the guy who is on mars playing on a toaster and his cpu brings us to -3 after 5 minutes. Sigh. He cannot play the game, it's not my fault. So why should he ruin my game? He shouldn't.....

well cpu score is already an in-game stat theoretically we scould script auto-kicking (plus customized kick message) anyone with 400+cpu score on a 8player + host where you type a picked up keyword into the "rules" box: say "nolag" (for example).
However you'd have to pay that person to script it.

...or not.
maybe someone 's feeling motivated and generous. :)

If it's a problem about CPU score you can simply put in CPU<350 in the title. If it's about lag, then it's slightly more complicated. Sometimes networks are just plain annoying. I'm on a university network and it decides to cut me off from players in FA suddenly. There's no recovery like with a normal hitch in the network where you get your connection back after half a second.

In addition to that, you can't put "ping < X" in the title. It's useless to put Ping < 500 in there because ping is forced at 500 in FA. No one in the world has a stable ping over 500 because two people on the opposite sides of the world are at ~450. If it's unstable you won't notice it until you play the game and it's not going to occur in the lobby.

So personally putting people on the foe list for joining 8-player games with an unstable connection all the time over and over again, is still the best way to go. Same for people who join your 8-player games and going -3 in 10 minutes.

Do this only if someone is a repeat offender. And don't forget that your foe list is your personal list. People sometimes post in here or go about it in chat saying "This guy is a cheater/lagger/quitter/whateverer he needs to be banned". Don't do that because that's not helping anyone.
