Question about AI and late game slowdown

Postby planeswalker » 03 Mar 2017, 09:47

Hey all, i was wondering if I could get some advice. Normally I play compstomps with friends, 2v2 etc vs AI. However I noticed that late game (30+ minutes) everything starts to slow down. After searching the forums abit, it seems that this is an AI pathfinding problem and is unavoidable(Sorian AI has this problem). I also read that there is a "Duncan AI" that apparently does not suffer from such slowdowns. But I'm not sure where I can find it or an up to date version.

If say I want to play 4v4 vs AI with friends, how should I best set it up to minimise the AI lagging? Set max units to 500 for example, does anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks

You either reduce the number of units or you and your friends buy a CPU with better signle thread performance

Limit units ok i'll remember to do that. I personally have a 6700k overclocked so unless its required to get some sort of server level processor I can't see what better CPU I can buy reasonably. Also other than the usual suspect of Setons, does anyone have good recommendations for 4v4 maps for vs AI?

The simspeed is decided by the slowest cpu in the session so you having a masterrace cpu won't do much as long as at least one of your friends plays with a 2Ghz laptop cpu.

Also if you are into playing with friends vs AI i recommend giving the LOUD Project a try. The guys behind it have managed to improve the simspeed a decent bit.

We all have processors that are about 3.5 to 4 ghz which is normally more than enough playing vs humans, its just that I didn't realise that more than 2 AI opponents actually caused such large slowdowns.

Come to think of it, which causes more slowdown, say for example 2 AI with lots of units or 4 AI with not so many units? Just thinking about using less AI if that's the case.

Regarding that Loud project, I've read the post and its very interesting but unfortunately like the maker said, its not compatible with FAF.

@planeswalker

If you're looking for a solution to a much improved AI and much less slowdown issue in late game, please take a look at our thread here:

Even though it's not currently compatible with FAF, we are in talks with IceDreamer about becoming a featured mod. Also, we have a program that is an updater, as well as a configuration manager that will allow you to play both versions of the game, and easily switch between them!
