3d card for this game

Postby Gruffman » 10 Feb 2017, 17:11

Toying with the idea of getting a new graphics card just for this game. What sort of card would do a good job, preferably one a few years old so i could pick it up used?

Am vaguely aware this game is single thread so does that mean i need a good single cpu graphics card as opposed to a dual/quad core graphics card for example?

Basically any remotely modern graphics card is good enough for this game. This game needs single threaded performance most from your CPU.
There are other threads where some good PC components/setups for the game have been processed.

shit FA can run maxed graphics on a GT 450

literally ANYTHING you can currently buy on amazon/LDLC/newegg will do. and if you go on ebay or craigslist anything at and above the 80$ mark

Nvidia cards get more graphics options with this game so stick with nvidia

Hey Gruffman,

I suggest you get a budget GPU, as for the CPU--pick a relatively modern, mid-spec or higher processor from the past few years and you'll be just fine.

Regarding GPU/CPU -- the game is bottlenecked primarily by the CPU, but in certain cases the GPU will affect your gameplay. For instance, due to how range-rings are implemented, if you chose to use them your GPU will be taxed a lot higher than you would expect, in a few cases this will cause the game rendering to become a bottleneck and slow down your simulation.

Nah you can get an i3 and it'll run supcom just splendid. I have an i3-4160 and while it can't stream for shit it can handle supcom very very well.

As for a budget gpu either get an r7 360 or a ti 750

If you are on a budget, just remember to stay away from NVidia.

I disagree, it's pretty hard to beat the 1050/1060 cards if you're on a budget

Presently, AMD's lineup at those price points either knocks the socks off, or matches, the NVidia lineup.

Hmm, I'm confused now.

I was thinking of a pc upgrade because when I play some of the co-op maps (solo is my idea of fun!) I find that the in game time elapsed is often half of reality. Eg clock says 30mins when an hour has really passed.

My cpu rating in lobby is a healthy 169.

I've noticed also in busy team games (eg 10 or 12 players total) when things slow down another player may say they are getting a healthy 60fps when I `feel` mine is around 30 or less.

So, what if anything do i need to upgrade?
