Alright, so as a disclaimer I am aware that this probably won't work because it's too complicated or too much work to implement. Still, the idea sounded fun in my head so here it is:
Motivation: So we had some discussion about voting for balance, polls and voting in general, right? And I think it's quite obvious that there are problems with taking a normal poll of FAF users and use that as a decision base, because some people are more qualified (i.e. informed) to make decisions than others. The following is the solution to this problem:
Solution: A point based voting system! Each FAF member has multiple votes, and the number of votes is based on the status of the account which is tracked by an automated system. The number of votes mainly increases with higher activity and rank, but it should also be fun! By being more active, you get more "Statuses/Titles/Avatars" which add more voting points to your account!
Possible "Statuses" a FAF member can attain:
1) FAF Lurker - 3 voting points
You have a FAF account which is not a smurf, nothing more.
2) Ranked Player - 3 voting points
You play at least 10 matches per month.
3) Forum Troll - 2 voting points
You post at least 10 times in the FAF forums per month.
4) Contributor - 4 voting points
You made a map, mod or played 10 test games in a beta patch in the last 3 month.
5) No-lifer - 5 voting points
You have a rank of over 1700 in FAF and played at least 5 ranked matches in the last month.
6) Likes "Gaps" / Custom Queen - 2 voting points
You play at least 10 custom games per month.
7) Teenager - minus 5 points
You had admistrative actions taken against you in the last three month.
Advantages: People who feel they are more important than other can point to their points! It motivates people to stay active! We can make polls, which mean much more than pure mob-mentality!
