Faction Swap - any recommendations?

Postby Kalavinka » 16 Aug 2016, 01:08

So I've been playing Seraphim for a long time, I love to play the underplayed factions. There's just one problem:

It's boring.

Don't get me wrong, the Seraphim is a really cool faction and I love their design. But T2 Ilshavoh rush and spam every game, constantly trying to win before T3 hits...

It's pretty repetitive.

So I've been considering swapping to another faction, preferably one that allows for a greater variety of play. Would anyone be able to recommend me a faction that meets this description? I am willing to micromanage, to dedicate to any faction for as long as it takes. I love all of the factions almost equally. I just want to choose the right one.

What about Random? (maybe the most underplayed faction?)

- not repetitive
- love all factions equally
- great variety of play
- No fear of choosing the wrong one.

One of the best excuses for losing: "the random fucked me over, if only i got ..."
Only a few excuses are better, like "I'm rusty" and "bad teammates"

Lmao.

Tempting, but I'd prefer to dedicate to one for now, or at the very least go one-at-a-time until I become decent with all the factions. Changing every game will make it harder to learn, I'm still pretty noob (but I have little problem with micromanagement, and am willing to take on Aeon or Cybran).

UEF seems neat, but I would sooner kill myself than point defense creep or turtle to T3. Is playing without these viable or too costly?

I'm probably a little biased. But I'd recommend UEF, or failing this Aeon. As Cybran tends to be over represented in Ladder and it sounds like you'd prefer playing something which isn't as often used.

With UEF it is hardly accused of being over played. Especially in 1v1 Ladder. It definitely has it's own style, but, is in no way limiting. Many of the units can be rewarding for micro-management and it does have a reasonable variety of tactics. It is not simply a Ravager spamming faction. Here are some of the Pro's.

- Most powerful LAB. No unit rewards effective LAB play better than the Mech Marine.
- Awesome transport mobility options. With T1, T2, and T3 transport options UEF is very good at providing air mobility for it's ground units at all stages of the game. It's T2 Stinger gunships are even capable of lifting T2 ground units. Which can lead to some very interesting gunship/drop assault options.
- T2 Combat Engineers. The Sparky is awesome. It's fast, got the HP of a T2 tank, the DPS of a T1 tank, Jammer, Radar, and a T2 combat suite. It can shoots, and reclaims. I can decoy enemy shots, build T2 PD and give that PD radar coverage. This unit is simply fantastic. It is an excellent battlefield reclaimer and makes a great addition to an army.
- Powerful navy. The UEF navy is strong.
- Powerful late game units. The UEF translates very well into the late game - and with their strong defensive capabilities you will have no trouble getting there.
- Very strong Air-to-Ground attack. While the Aeon are generally considered the superior air force. When it comes to actually inflicting air-to-ground damage the UEF is hands down the best. The Broadsword is far superior to Restorers when dealing ground damage. The Strat bomber has the best balance between AoE and damage. The Janus is an excellent carpet bombing tool. The Stork is a very good torpedo bomber... This when combined with their awesome transports - Not only is the UEF the most capable faction for air-lifting their ground troops, but, they are also highly capable at providing them with air support. So if you like playing "Starship Troopers" UEF is for you. ;)

Unless you like pd creeping; slow, cliché units with boring animations; com-dropping every game; no decent air at all; and no super-late game option whatsoever; UEF is a bad bet.

Now, if you want to play a real faction, I recommend you Aeon. There is nothing more delightful than seeing your enemies rage as their t1 tanks succumb before your superior-ranged auroras; your unbeatable, high damage t2 tanks; your almost op harby rush; the second best artillery drops that never miss a target; your superior aoe and dps, stunning t1 bombers; hilarious mercy snipes; air superiority all game; double-gun com; second best shields against arty; best t2 pd for firebase to firebase combat; unbreakable tmd defensive line; best direct fire experimental by far (beats even crabs mass per mass in low numbers); best strats against structures; air superiority t3 gunship; and the list goes on and on.

Also, their destroyers' shoots feel so great is almost masturbatable.

With Aeon, you just can't lose if you know what you're doing. And having the most unconventional units of all factions, you'll never get bored of playing them.

I agree with Hawkei. UEF is pretty good to use.
