after 8 years, can someone finally tell me how to do this

at around 3:40 on the top island, how do you unload units instantly. For the last 10000 drops I ahve done, I always see transport move into position, then hover for a few seconds, then release units.
Some people, like the better setons players, release the units right as the transport gets into position, it is all in one motion, no hover, and if the transport has a subsequent move order, it gets out right away.

Blind luck afaik. Sometimes it's fast, sometimes slow.

Wasn't there some mumbling about "gotta give the transport a long move order to get the drop fast" or such?

Yes think it's faster if you set a second short move order before the drop command.

As for the moving away straight off (as though a subsequent move order were issued), this is normally done with a Shift + move command. It is typical for most players to tell the transport to return home after the drop. Another pro tip which might save you time is giving the engineers a Shift + build order immediately after the load command, but, before they actually enter the transport. You can tell the engineers to build a PD, or a factory, or a couple of mexes... That way they are building the moment they hit the ground.

Sometimes there is a delay in dropping. I've never quite figured it out. Pretty random I think.

It also depends on height/terrain, some times transport need time to change height before it can unload

I recall last year that transports would move to the average position of all units being loaded and decrease the amount of time needed. Now, it sits there and waits for every unit to crawl to it...

You need to move the transport yourself and try to get the units as close as possible, TA. It's really frustrating and I don't know why it changed.

For some reason, while the turning raduis is quite small, the vertical change is SUPER slow on transports. If you go over any terrain, the transport has to slowly drift back down to drop the units. EG on setons, if you drop the island from straight across the water with a short move order after the drop, it will pretty much let the units out as soon as it gets there. If you come from the north or south and fly over the rock part, it takes 2x+ as long to drop the units.
