Team Economy

Postby razman360 » 16 May 2016, 12:38

Hi guys, after owning SupCom for quite some time, I've started to really get into the multiplayer aspect of the game. I know the basics well, scoured the wikis and have watched plenty of replays, etc, so I'm not a complete noob. However, one thing I'm not sure about is how economy is handled in a team game (by default). I find sometimes my economy can crash seemingly out of nowhere. Is this due to my allies? How does the game manage eco between players? And is there a way to isolate my economy completely?
Thanks in advance.

you can overflow mass or power to your ally, these resources will be split evenly between players that have space in storage to store those resources, i think there was option to turn that thing off and not let your alllyes get your resources from you, but i have not seen option to stop them helping you with resources.

and yes sometimes they may overflow tons of power and then suddenly stop doing so and your economy may crash cause of it

How it is you send resource that you waste (when you have full storages and in positive income) to your ally.

Why your economi something crash is because you have energy from ally that owerflow to your economy, and when they start use they energy that was sending to you you are mising this energy and your eco crash. But its because you dont build enought own energy and drain it from allys that owerflow it to you.

Surplus resource, which would normally be wasted, goes to your ally. This mechanic is precisely that which allows one player to bring in a huge amount of manual reclaim and share this with their allies. This mechanism is different to giving resources, which is when you manually send mass and energy from your storage as a lump sum transaction.

Now in the instance when you are benefiting from an allies surplus you will notice that your income is showing something like -1, but you are full bottle on storage. Your eco is still okay for the moment, but this should be a sign that you are in a precarious position. As soon as your ally draws down on their resource storage, or has a sudden demand due to construction projects, or other drains, then their surplus will dry up and your economy will crash. You better make sure that you are developing your own resource generation so that you aren't dependant on your allies - you shouldn't be relying on their charity.

Actually, I go one step further. I'd sometimes build 8 or 12 T2 mass fabs in the early T2 stage during team games. Then control them using the "Mass Fab Manager" UI mod. That way I'd scoop up any surplus power from my allies and turn it into mass ;) . Getting another 8+ mass for free is like having an extra T2 mex. It all adds up.

I'd never recommend underbuilding power with noob allies though. That same noobishness which caused them to overbuild power is also likely to make them crash it. IMO only scrimp on power if you trust your ally to maintain supply.

On a related note, is there a way to bind sending your mass/energy from storage to a teammate to a hotkey without using a mod? I was looking through the list in game and I don't see one, but I'm hoping I just missed it.
